As a manager he was clearly a huge figure and as an innovator. As a Chairman he failed.

Yep, big name players we couldn't afford. How come we went from a team in the black with it's own stadium to a team who ended up being tenants to the local council? It's all very sad.

Fletcher's "Operation Premiership" anyone?

Funny, isn't it? At the time we all moaned and groaned and complained about Fletcher and his ridiculous OP idea. Pales into insignificance now, doesn't it?

In truth because parachute payments were small and the price for not returning in 2 years would always have been huge debts and struggle. All teams who didn't get back then ended up getting relegated further down.

When we were relegated we could have wound up all the debts and started again as others did. Mcginnity refused and asset stripped and sacked managers for fun. Richardson I'm sure would have just wound us up and maybe that was a factor in his demise - who knows.

Had we gone into administration then, too, we'd have had an option to buy back Highfield Road, and ownership of a site for a new stadium going with us... so far more appealing than the internal administration McGinnity and Robinson put us through!

Mcginnity stood & watched H Rd be demolished & Gas Tower blown up!
Richardson may have conceived the idea? Maybe Robinson, but Mcginnity was chairman during the start of the demise

100% correct. Mgginnity wrecked the club. I firmly believe richardsons main focus would have been a swift return and would have used every trick in the book. He certainly wouldn't have worried about creditors - the boardroom creditors dictated policy after his departure and that created the mess we are now in.

It's always worth reminding of the tricks pulled by Robinson and Richardson to ensure Derrick Robbins sold his shares to the very people he didn't want them sold to, as well...

Hmmm... :thinking about:
Richardson - Lost (sold) the ground
McGinnity - Lost (sold) the food and beverage income
Fisher - Lost the fans

I'm not denying where that responsibility lies- but many seem to deny the abysmal record of the last 6 years ownership like it matters not-akin to a new Government blaming previous incumbent policy... its been 6 years G... and what have SISU achieved?

until the relegation season from championship, I didn't pay much attention to the board room. but my general opinion is the boardroom of CCFC have always been money grabbing, self promoting c***s who get big salaries and pay offs who's only interest is their own pocket, not making a club/business a success. similar to Bankers in many ways.

Does the defamation sensor need a new battery? careful with the wording fellas!

In the end you judge a business over a term on its own merits, in effect against its own business plan.

The last 40 years has been business failure after failure. We should have realistically been a yo-yo Championship/Premiership team with a manageable debt, that would have required very good stewardship, given the difficulties of the football business- instead we got Richardson who heaped up enormous debts and got us relegated anyway.
That led us to Sisu, and 6 years of unprecedented failure, bitterness and disharmony- rock bottom, possibly leading to ground zero.

Were the board paid under McGinnity/Robinson/Richardson? Richardson certainly was but were any of the others?

I don't know, just a general summary. but as someone who has a board as his "superiors", I know that those higher up leave in a decent position

Don't know the terms of any loans or interest charges or amounts were they less than the commercial rates?

Has OSB or someone with a similar background ever done a post on the late 90s?

I'd love to know even as much as we do about the current situation. I was a teenager in the 90s and couldn't have cared less how the players got on the pitch.
