Work to convert the former Courtaulds factory on the Foleshill Road into residential apartments is now underway.
The work is being carried out as part of the Paragon Park scheme, a large residential housing project by Persimmon Homes, which will eventually provide up to 700 new properties built on a 19.6 hectare brownfield site flanked by the Foleshill Road to the west, and the Stoney Stanton Road on the site’s eastern boundary.
Phase one of the scheme, consisting of 113 new properties, is now complete. Phase two, which will deliver a further 201 homes, is now underway and includes the conversion of the former Courtaulds textile works into apartments, retaining the original factory façade.
The Courtaulds site dates back to the 1920s, and at its peak provided work for more than 5000 people. The building fell into disuse in 2007 and has remained vacant ever since. Many of the former industrial buildings were demolished to make way for the new scheme, but the factory façade will be kept to retain the character of the area – its retention a condition of the planning consent granted in early 2015.
