Reckon it'll be up to Armstrong then? Either stay at a lower level, finish top scorer but then go out to a Championship team (if Newcastle don't go down) next season. Or move to a Championship club in January, possibly score a lot of goals there, then be in the first team frame at Newcastle next season.

Agents are much, much more powerful than players. Lots of Championship clubs monitoring including Forest & MKDons!

In an ideal world he will stay with us all season then stay with us next season in the championship too but we aren't in an ideal world. I think there is a good chance we will keep him beyond January though

I don't think he will be here after his loan ends in January so let's just enjoy him whilst we can & hope TM & MV can find a respectable replacement.

I think he likes it here and seems settled and made good friends and the way he went over to Mowbray after scoring the winner against Peterborough I'm quietly confident he will stay until the end if Newcastle don't recall him in January.

I wonder if he would be up for going to a new club for just 3 months when he's doing so well here, starting every game, and scoring goals for fun. He'd have to start from scratch, getting to know new team mates and staff.

He is still a kid and teams that are linked with him are going to be struggling so not creating many chances, would be a bad move and could put his development back.

Not guaranteed regular game time there, though?

Hopefully he has some say and wants to stay for the rest of the season.

Lets hope he meets a Cov Bird and gets her babbied up! A good reason to stay in true CCFC 1980s fashion.

He'll go back to Newcastle in January, possibly play one or two games for them and then be loaned out to a Championship club. In my view TM should be pressing for an answer from Newcastle now because it will take some time to find a replacement (if that's even possible).

If the player has a say in it, then I'd hope he would want to stay and finish the job here.... If we are still in with a shout of promotion come Jan then surely he will look at the situation and think " I want that league winner medal, I want to feel that buzz of promotion... Maybe even grab the golden boot on the way up"

if if he leaves he could end up with none of that

When's Dominic Samuel fit again?

I think TM & MV have already got a good idea what is likely to happen in Jan. The main danger is SMc getting the sack IMO

Need to be very careful here. When Samuel is fit then I am sure plenty of clubs looking to take him on loan after what he did end of last season. So imho we need to be going after him again regardless of the Armstrong situation.

Lets face it even if he was our player come the January transfer window he would be gone anyway along with possibly Maddison so support them whilst they are here because it wont be forever

It's the inevitable dichotomy. If we obtain a player and he's successful he'll be enticed elsewhere; if he's not then he's little use to us. I guess the ideal position for us is finding players that are only just good enough to fit in a successful side at this level: if Mowbray finds a player called Goldilocks he should hire immediately.

we have some things in our favour

1)its clear he loves scoring goals, and it seems he loves awards too, bet he wants that golden boot for l1

2) he has a chanc eof seeing success and silverware with the team, might not want to pass that up

3) hes 18, still young and leaving his similar age mates at ccfc right now might feel like changing schools!

little things and may not even be true, but you never know, might swing things in our favour

I bet SISU will sell him like they did with McGoldrick when he was scoring!

Yeah, I thought that as well but Rodgers got the boot at Liverpool and it didn't affect Kents loan...same with Cole from Villa when Sherwood got sacked. I know it's different with a player scoring for fun out on loan but a sacking won't necessarily mean he'll go back.

Agree, but TM obviously seems to be good friends with SMc, in itself that probably won't change things but they can at least talk about it honestly between themselves. So at least we should know the situation while SMc is manager

I would say the biggest danger, is a championship club offering to pay his wages whilst on loan!!

Don't give them ideas they may try it

But seriously I am afraid he will move up a league, we then have to start again trying to find another good striker to take his place.

Lol, I think a clearer way to put it would be, if we maintain our current form until January, we could have about 60 points. For the remainder of the season, the points required to maintain a top 6 place would be about 15 to 20 points from 16 games, which is relegation form.
(I think) (rough figures only)

Aha, that does make sense. That's encouraging
