As the M5 south diversion took me round me around the arse-end of Worcester and still buzzing from the game my mind went wandering.

Am I being romantic or naive but doesn’t us having booked ourselves a final spot at Wembley give us a huge boost in trying to recruit free signings?

Assuming they are not cup tied who wouldn’t want the opportunity to play at Wembley even on a 6 month deal. I know I would value the life experience over a few extra quid.

The owners would be silly not to see the opportunity that this has given us to attract players that before may have not given us a second thought.

there are tones of players that could add to our squad

Getting ringers in for the big game can work, but they'll all need to shave those sideburns.

I think we'll certainly see the players we have working much harder to impress in the run up to wembley

I more meant the opportunity to recruit a few players to help try and save us from relegation by using the Wembley trip as incentive

If I recall correctly, our form dropped after we got to wembley in 87, as players weren't going in for tackles, risking injury or suspension iin case they missed out on the final. I hope that the same does not apply or we are in even deeper problems

Yep im worried about that but its even more the reason to get some new bodies in the door, competition for a place would maybe help stop that mindset forming

I was pretty young then but went to all the home games post the Leeds game so my dad could get the ticket stubs and I remember us playing really well with huge confidence running through the side. It was probably only the Southampton game that they slacked off a bit - Coventry City match record: 1987

yep. We would have had a top 6 finish otherwise.
