Thought our defence yesterday were fairly solid with Ricketts at right back and Aaron Martin at centre half yes there were one or two heart stopping moments and an og but I thought in the main we looked fairly solid against an ariel bombardment especially second half. Despite his own goal Martin was one of our better players.

I've been critical of Martin in the past, but yesterday I thought he played well.

Much prefer Ricketts in the heart of the defence though rather than at full back. He lacks the pace against speedy wingers to maintain that role I feel.

Martin has looked better under Mowbray. I think Mowbray has boosted his confidence by giving him a simplified role...just head and kick it away, no nonsense defending.

Last season all our defending was nonsense.

Agree Martins biggest danger is when he had time to think!

See ball kick or head ball that's all he needs to do!

I would say no to the OP's question. Yesterday was solid and its an option but I prefer Ricketts in the centre. At Right back I think we can lose his leadership a bit. In saying that Martin was excellent so I'd be open to try it. I just think if Willis is fit it would be the back 4 we started the season with. Also, Reda Johnson was a fucking mountain yesterday. Won everything in the air and scrapped. Proud of the team yesterday. Even if we had lost.

we need to get a new rb ideally. equivilent of stokes and we will be a danger from both flanks.

i actually thought rickets had a poor game against southend, but was much better yesterday at full back
I think it will very much depend on the opposition and style of play . he may well struggle against a fast winger

And in an odd kind of way, this makes me happier than being 2nd in the league at this stage. The fact we are playing so well, that even if we lose a game we can still be proud of the performances.

TM needed to sort the defence after the goals conceded v Crewe and Southend. He has and we looked more solid. Another case of the manager doing the right thing
