Absolutely. I have said it before but we don't use our wingbacks in the way some expect or in the way a lot of other teams do. They are not supposed to be our primary creators, in possession they should be getting as high & wide as possible to create space in the centre for the likes of O'Hare & Palmer particularly to exploit.
That's why this constant rhetoric about us not having wingbacks that beat a man & chuck crosses in is misguided, we don't want them doing that.

Imagine playing central midfield your whole career and then being expected to know how to beat a man and whip crosses in. He’s probably put a total of 20 crosses in his whole life before being moved to RWB.
It seems to be one of those ideas that go back to an older age of football, where you have a battering ram centre-forward who'd just assault the keeper to score. Didn't matter where the cross went - the onus was on the striker to make something of it.
Nowadays it's an option of last resort if you're struggling to break through a defence with passing, or if you're not a technically gifted team who plays a big lump up front hoping to pick off scraps.
But it does annoy me how so many crosses aren't very good or accurate. If you've got time, then it should be on the crosser to pick out a man. If it's more rushed at least get it in with a bit of pace on and not where the keeper can get it easily. Fed up of floated high crosses to the six yard box. Bit of pace and you're more likely to get deflections, missed clearances or they just have to put it behind for a corner.

But would it not help in games such as yesterday to have wingbacks who are a bit more creative? We looked very one dimensional yesterday. Not talking about wing backs who put loads of crosses in but ones that can beat a man get to the byline and pick out a manAbsolutely. Hamer work rate was amazing. His performances since coming back from suspension have been consistently high.

Best free kick I’ve ever seenCaveat, my marks are based on the 80 minutes I was there to watch the match. Needed to leave early to be sure to get on a bus, given my father’s mobility issues
Wilson: 6 - Did not have too much to do
Eccles: 4.5 - Very poor first half, seemed to start on the half way line when building attacks but when got the ball just passed it back. Turned a few times by McLean, and caught wrong side once or twice. Improved second half, more confidence and better positioning
Panzo: 6 - Solid enough, one good bursting run in the second half, but had the ball easily taken off him near the area
Mcfadzean: 7 - He doesn’t age. I wish I had his fitness when I was his age!! Composed, organised and a great leader at the back
Rose: 6 - Solid again, similar to Panzo. I don’t recall Keane causing any trouble all match (well the 80 minutes I saw)
Bidwell: 6.5 - Good outlet. Starts in a good position to build up speed when attacking, always had a decent amount of space in to which he ran, and was always an outlet to receive the ball.
Sheaf: 7 - effective. Constant presence in that midfield. Does the simple things so well.
Hamer: 7 - dynamic, surging and powerful. Took half a mark off for that back pass
Palmer: 6 - Should have scored really, although I could be being harsh as on the replay it looked like it was a good challenge at the end of the first half. A new system, hopefully more games with him and O’Hare together and they will get used to each other’s movement. He is NOT lazy at all!!
O’Hare: 6.5 - some lovely touches, including the passage of play that led to Palmer’s chance. Confidence clearly not been affected by the injury, just got to build up more match fitness
Gyokeres: 6 - I did say that these marks are based on the time I was there, so cannot comment on his goal (have seen it on replay). Seemed quiet in the first half, Wigan Athletic had focussed on him. Lovely driving run in the first half down towards the byline, but couldn’t cut it back
I did not see enough of the substitutes long enough to offer a fair rating.
Robins: 7 -substitutions made at a good time to impact the game
James McLean:10 - just for that comedy of the worst free kick I have ever seen when in such a dangerous position. I think it even went backwards when going out for a throw in!!

In terms of accuracy we are stone dead last with just 2.6 accurate per game. Although, as a percentage (18.1%), Cardiff are marginally worse (17.6%).

No need to apologise, sums it up pretty well IMHO. I felt this was the first home game where fans expected us to win (the 'dream' front 5 probably influenced that as well as it being 'lowly Wigan') and so the atmosphere was pretty flat at times. Cheers for Vik's goal were amazing though, hope you stayed for thatMy first home game. It was very low key match. Wigan were very limited and players taking it in turns to sit down and feign injury was embarrassing. I like Wigan the place but team looks destined for a long disappointing season.
My observations were Eccles had a challenging night in balancing offering a threat down right and dealing with James Maclean who was Wigan's best player. Josh in the end just about came out on top with that dual.
Hamer was very good as was Faz. Right decision by MR to take Palmer off who struggled.
Rose started well but I think lost confidence. Panzo had a dodgy spell in second half.
Vik totally brilliant with his wonder goal.
