Only 13,409 there against the reigning Prem League Champs. I was there and it was a cracking game. Just shows that even being in the top tier, our attendances have never been great.

Yep, emergency style loan and he played just the one match for us. He was outstanding too that day.

The conditions were terrible that day which obviously means it's hard for supporters to attend. The average attendance was 18,500 that year.

Chris Coleman was on the verge of signing for us and was in the stands watching. He ended up moving to Blackburn following there defensive display!

Like an old skinny Dion Dublin he was IIRC.

Cracking match that, in the snow, we were on such shit form my Dad had decided to go Christmas shopping and given his ticket to my mate. Bryan Richardson said if we won, he'd pay for his Christmas shopping every year (another broken Richardson promise). Absolutely destroyed the Champions, 5 different goal scorers, Lars Boheinen having to go off because his colour blind ass couldn't see the orange ball.

Great day.

Have I got the right Blackburn game but I think Tim Flowers was their sub for some reason coming back from an injury i think and got himself sent off for abusing the linesman from our running track.

I think that was a game couples of years later (did we win 1-0)- I think it was much warmer too.

I was in the Main Stand that day as my Old Man came up with me and he wouldn't sit (stand) in the Terrace.

Can't believe it's 20 years ago.

Trondegil is right Rupert it was a few years later, and a lot warmer. I cant remember the year but I think it was the one we got to the FA Cup qaurters and got knocked out by Sheff Utd.

I think you heard it clearer than I did, and I just remember Flowers giving the linesmand some from the subs bench. I think it was regarding a penalty we got which he flagged for for handball.

Their manager was Roy Hodgson that day. He was an absoloute bellend after Flowers got sent off, and didnt act with a great deal of grace.

Think it was the last game of the 97/98 season. Boateng scored I think. Think we won 2-0.

Yeah, 97/98. Dion penalty 2 mins before the sending off, as alluded to by Moff.

Loving Big Ron. "…when it got to 5-0 I thought, if we defend like we normally do we might just get a point out of this"

Yeah, I always remember him as I started watching football on the telly the year Leeds won the league. They were on a lot and Chris Whyte was in their team.
Must have the best Cov record ever!

Spooky. I had just thought of him for the Seldom mentioned Legends thread. Was it a back injury he had?

He was a good player his entire career. One of those consistent better than average players who aren't quite good enough to make the very top - although he did play for Arsenal for many years.

One of the first games I remember really well. That Dublin goal was a touch of class. Hutchinson scored one like it at the Ricoh against Sunderland.

Looking Whyte up, he had a spell halfway through his league career where he played indoor football in the US for two years because he couldn't get signed by a club. The man's lived a life.

Like many, I was at the game, and amidst the snowy pitch and orange ball (which we should have used more that season, given the scoreline) I thought Chris Whyte had a really solid game at the back. Nothing fancy, just a solid, vocal, bullying centre-half that knew the game.

Can't recall who he was in for, but he had a memorable, if understated solo game for us.
