... is that City fans must hate players?

Some of you are embarrassing. Today I witnessed so much abuse against our own players it was disgusting. The same ones who normally moan at Hussey and Bell, today decided that Cameron and Murphy were to be the boo boys. I'm absolutely sick of it and these kind of people are putting me off continuing to attend as much as any board member or owner.

I accept we're shit. I don't like it any more than anyone else, but whilst I'm there I will give them a chance. I'm as frustrated as any fan that we're bottom of the league, I hate that I don't enjoy going to games any more, I hate our board/owners, I resent the fact that the ground is empty - it's all so frustrating but please stop having scape-goats, stop crucifying every mistake and vent your anger on those deserving of it.

Sure we get upset when someone makes a mistake, but be big enough to realise they never meant to and don't use it as an excuse to vilify everything else they thereafter.

I agree rob. I think frustration is getting a grip on people. It could get really messy next March.

Yes but some players like Murphy never learn after last weeks screw up. He almost did exactly the same 1st half when he should have cleared it but decided to play across 6 yard box to defender. You cannot accept that and if they are professionals - which they are - some of the players have to accept that responsibility and we have the right to our opinion.

Didn't really hear anything like that near me, there were a few idiots whinging over nothing but it was far from widespread, Have to agree though, some of our fans are right tools, espically those ones taking homes boxes of those flu packs.

Yes but in what way does abusing them help? Also the one you're referring to was on his wrong foot (and no a goalkeeper shouldn't be two footed even these days) it was after an awful over strebgth back-pass from Wood if you recall

I think the collective sigh is enough when a player makes a mistake they can hear it and they know they f*cked up. I don't think snarling at players like rabid dogs is going improve matters in anyway at this time when we are bottom of the league and being cut adrift.

What the hell was that all about? It was like a frenzy. People were saying things like "I dunno what's in 'em, but they're free!" Crazy times...

Baker got a bit of grief for a misplaced pass today after he'd just done 3 good things immediately beforehand. That pretty much sums up most City fans mentality, really.

I shouted at Murphy a few times, notibly when he scuffed a first half clear right accross his goal and Crainie wasnt certain of getting to it! This was out of frustration though (as he has been shit IMO all season).

I am all for supporting the players while they are playing though.

The one bloke who I did insist on shouting at was that bloody linesman who pulled a muscle just before we could take a quick throw in (although if we had taken it quick, it would probably ended up back with Murphy a short time after, even though we were basically on the touch line!).

Again, this was out of frustration as I felt he'd robbed us of an advantage, and to make matters worse, he then shook the hand of their number 3 (I think it was) which made it more suss for me that he wasnt actually injured!! I did see him late on standing / walking within the dug out areas so his leg / muscle couldnt have been that injured :thinking about:

Poor bloke was knackered, and had me shouting ':jerkit: :jerkit: :jerkit:' at him .

I know I read too much into it but I just needed to take my anger out on someone (and it was 0-0 at this time. God help him if he went off after they scored )

It seems there has to be at least one focus of attack for the morons. It's bad that it gets to a point where the player doesn't even get credit for doing well, more a 'well he should be doing that every game' instead. Hussey can't enjoy playing for us.

Good post Rob
I couldn't agree more, it makes me cringe when players get singled out by our own support, I for one will never boo, jeer or rant at anyone wearing Sky Blue PUSB

Sorry. I don't agree with Rob at all. Although I can't get to matches due to finances and distance, if I could be there I would be giving the players a lot of grief! How dare they wear the shirt of Sky Blue and play like they do? They are on £1,000's a week and couldn't give two fucks about the club. To them it's just a job and they don't do it very well! Before I was forced to retire I earned £22,000 a year. These arseholes are on 10-15 times that! If I didn't do my job well enough, I would expect to get a bollocking! So I'm sorry Rob and everyone else who supports your sentiments. Bollock the team! Give them stick! Because Andy Thorn sure as fuck isn't! And that's costing us dear!

Your job is not really comparable with that of a footballer, the circumstances are a world apart. If you think players deserve shouting at that's fine, but it doesn't need to be justified by the fact that you were good at whatever you did.

Thanks for completely missing my point there. At your job you had a management structure right? So does football. Andy Thorn talking about how terrific and unlucky they were in public doesn't mean they're getting high-fives and 'jolly good show lads' in the dressing room.

You can shout at players all you like, but don't pretend you're doing some kind of job-related service.

I never boo and would only shout at a player who is blatantly not trying as opposed to making a mistake or having a bad game. McSheffrey today for example needed a rocket up his arse. The team he supposedly supports is going down the shitter and he couldn't give a fuck.

Finally, someone who appreciates that what the manager says to the public certainly isn't what he says to the players. It's been a while!

I suppose those of us that think that abusing players who already lack confidence is (let me put this gently) a bit dumb, should just be grateful for the finances and distance.

Agree, but also disagree to a point.

Absolutely fine for us to play really poorly and for the manager to say "We worked hard and it didn't just come off for us." Totally not fine for him to say "We played really well and were very unlucky."

This is the problem people have with Thorn. If you are 'bad' you don't say 'excellent.' There is a whole spectrum of words between bad and excellent you can use that would be more than acceptable. Some words bend the truth a little and allow for artistic creation, some words are just pure lies and make you sound like you are on a different planet.
