Like most Cov fans I would love to see Gunnar, King and Westwood sign. All 3 have now been offered contracts but why wait till mid June for a response from them? The offers are what they are so why should the club wait while the players see if something better comes along?

In the mean time Thorn can’t move on any of his targets until he knows what they are doing, and there is a good chance we will miss out.

Also I think most of us agree that Clingan has had a great season, so why not offer him a new contract now rather than wait until next year when his contract is up?

I don't know, three weeks seems pretty fair. It's a decent amount of breathing space for them to weigh things up without them feeling rushed or pressured. The only thing is whether the deadline is stuck to, after all the ongoing speculation we've heard about Westwood and Gunnarsson with new contracts for the last however many months.

I guess they don't want to hurry them, risking pissing them off. They've been set a deadline and i'm happy with that.
Agree about Sammy. I would also say the same about Martin Cranie, I do not want to see the same situation with those 2 aswell.

Im trying to think who elses contract will be up next summer. I know of Clingan, Cranie, Platt and Eastwood, but I think Bell, Hussey and Baker's will be aswell. We need to tie Sammy, Crains and Hussey down for contract extensions.

Ajs - That's better!! You've listened to me! And I agree with you! Think it's fair amount of time. Only thing I'd say is, Thorn can't really move in on any targets at the moment anyway - transfer embargo and transfer window. Also, I agree about offering those with a year left on their contracts, especially Clingan, a new contract now. Not leave it till the last minute as has happened this season.

Wait, you don't think I just swan around making pithy sarcastic comments in every reply surely?

They will wait because their agents are advising them to wait and because they are hoping that there will be an improved last minute offer. It's a dangerous game because potential suitors may want their business sorted out and will have alternative targets. They could be left with less options or accepting less from elsewhere.

I think it's good to draw a line under the whole situation by a certain time (assuming that's what happens) so everyone knows where they stand and everyone can move on with their prep work for next season. Even if that means all three players um and ah their way into a new team.

To be honest, it's the waiting that really gets me. I'd rather know one way or the other and then move on. Common sense tells me that they're all going but then someone chirps up with a "rumour" about this and that and it puts that little bit of doubt in my head again!

I know what you mean KG, I hate the waiting. I would rather know one way or the other. I just think giving them until mid June is a long time. If they had to decide by the end of May is that putting to much pressure on them?

Westwood and Gunner were both offered a new and improved contract at the backend of last season, so they have had loads of time to decide if they are staying or going, King I don't think will be here next season, I think he'll want a bigger wage packet towards the end of his carear and a move to else where will give it him sadly. I bet Thorn already has targets linned up, no players are bigger than the Club

I think the fact they let Quirke go shows they have a keeper lined up.
