We wanted rid last week ... surely anyone would be a better option than him in midfield, even the underpar / on the bench Fleck ? Jordan Clarke / the new unfit kid .. Marshall ?

Jordan Clarke can play there.

Because Barton is a central midfielder, who might see this as a big chance to impress. I would definitely choose him over Clarke or an unfit bloke who hasn't played football for 2 years.

I think it's a real shame Barton doesn't make more of his abilities. He's got loads of talent, just not much desire.

I feel a bit sorry for Barton and genuinely think because of his gangly frame, it often looks like he has a lack of desire and fight when that's:
a) probably not the case
b) his style of play (so to speak)

We're a small squad with a few injuries, players who you wouldn't normally start will play, its inevitable.

More importantly, good luck to him tonight, hope he has a good game.

Off Topic ,I wonder If they had known LC was going to put In a request ,whether they would have let Manset go.

Most definitely yes, hadn't got the rest of the squads work ethic according to SP. PUSB! 0-1 UP

There is a big difference between being prepared to let someone go if an offer came in and not utilising his talent while he still remains a squad member.

I think they would, Pressley has picked pretty much anyone but Manset when we've had a striker shortage.

Give a reason why he shouldn't play him then, yeah he's been told to find a club. But if were stuck with him he's a good one to have in the squad.

My original post related to his displays thus far, they seem very indifferent, a little lazy, lacking in first or a second touch ... poor passing, there was no reason that I could see that you would play him ... not one, granted I've not seen every game, so I stand to be corrected if more have that he's played in ... but my gut says he's not got a future with us ...

What I'm saying is he could be a good impact player, not often a starter

Yeah, I don't disagree that he could be more of a super sub, but not a first 11 in my opinion, he did appear to be putting more effort in tonight and with it ... had more impact on the game than normal ... but he's not the answer, in my opinion, in the long term, free his salary up for someone else. Not sure when his contract expires to be honest ?

Only needs a good run in the team IMO.

At least he wants to play for CCFC.

Unlike Leon Clarke who refused to play. Squad players are very important as they can be the difference between winning and losing a tricky game like tonight.

I've just got back from Aston Gate and in my opinion Barton played well. We need to keep players like him. He can do a job when required.

Barton did well today, passed well in the midfield, had a decent shot from distance, put his foot in when needed.

Bearing in mind Fleck had been ill, who else would we have started in central midfield?

Really? A defender rather than someone in their natural position?

classy player who suffers a lot at this level as most teams want to 'mix it up', against better opposition e.g Barnsley he was outstanding

Jesus, do people have to put kiddie smiley's after every tongue in cheek post. Would you get it if I said he was next in line after Murphy?

I think we all mostly feel the same about AB, a player who is young (22-23) but an oldie here. he doesn't use his talent wisely, more effort and training and he is a decent player.

I cannot understand the supporters who give stick to Barton - He is a good quality player in this league and we been very lucky to have him around, although he has had very few starts.
