I will support Frank and the team till the end but I’m not convinced at this point that Coventry will be the catalyst to spark success with Lampard’s career.... I just don’t think we are that lucky.

I would have preferred us to poach a manager who is on a run of form such a Matt Bloomfield who is highly rated as an innovative new manager.. saying that we could be passing Wycombe the other way come May

Bloomfields run off success so far is that short it could be considered a purple patch still

I don’t get the Bloomfield want. Everyone is allowed their own opinion but feel he’s just the new item in the shop window .

Hiring managers doing well at the moment seems a recipe for disaster for both parties. He needs to learn his trade and continue good form into success and build a portfolio. Definitely one to keep an eye on, but way too much too soon.

My main worry with Lampard is that all his teams have been defensively very poor, and with our obvious defensive frailties that is a big concern.

I do think he will have us playing more attacking and more exciting football than under Robins though.

The two coaches he's brought with him are a huge upgrade on what we had, so that aspect is very pleasing.

No reason at all is the answer but that said

He’s older and wiser
He will have taken time to watch and look and learn
He is more aware of his strengths and weaknesses and how to maximise his team to be a better sum of all their parts
He’s different to what we had and the positive attitude and feel and vibe will help in the short term

Here is what I think will be different.

When everyone is fit we are 2 or 3 good players short of being a really good squad.
I can't believe that King wouldn't invest in those players considering what the management change would have cost, even if they are loans.

We apparently now have good coaching staff, that on it's own could make a significant difference.

To me this looks like an improvement on where we were, even though I disagreed with sacking Robins.

But play offs from here? It’s not realistic

Absolutely nothing in any lampard interview that makes him stand out from any other new manager ( sorry , " coach" ) . He says exactly what you'd expect. Nothing less. He probably said the same at all the other clubs he's managed .
He did say he loves coaching younger players. But he's not just a coach is he, in reality ? If his number one priority is to coach youngsters, because it's what he likes doing it, then we're fucked.

I think this season is a write-off and has turned into another transition season. Probably finish upper mid table and build for another go next year.

Never say never Pete, I don't believe we will get there, but strange things happen in this league, year in year out

Why is this time going to be different?

Last time he managed in the Championship he got to the playoffs.
Hopefully it IS the same as last time

Why not? 29 games to play and only 10 points behind. It's a big ask but no reason we shouldn't be competing up there, especially if we can bring in some leadership and maybe a cheeky João Felix loan in January.

The Championship isn't as good as it was last season either imo. Everyone is dropping points all over the place.

Well that's football isn't it? You never know. That's the whole idea.

No one would have foreshadowed how Mark robins did when he replaces Russel Slade. The same applies with Ruben Amorim at Yanited.

I thought Liverpool were taking a massive risk with Arne Slot but look at him now....you never know.

He's inheriting a relatively young squad of players who I believe all want to improve. Lampard likewise wants to better himself. These are hopefully the right conditions for him.

This. No magic formula for appointing a successful manager.
Warnock in his pomp was, about as near to a guarantee as you could get.

Are the rumours of him bringing in Cole correct? The best LB I think has ever played the game and would certainly help us as he has done a good job for England U21s

I wonder if he had to cut some of the more expensive coaches like Given and Cole in negotiations.

Absolutely not realistic, but not out of the question. If we have a decent December then come January things may look different.

Pointless thread, whats done is done. Might aswell get behind him and the team now. I truly hope we're all able to look back on the threads on Frank, and on all the players at the end of the season and laugh about how much crap they were given at this point in time.

Every single managerial appointment is a gamble, a risk, every single one. Past performances do not indicate future results.

He may not be your choice.....but you didnt have the choice in the first place.

King on Talksport said that he is going to be given the necessary time to make the changes he thinks will improve the team. If King is giving him time then so must we, he did also say that he had spoken with Frank extensively before the appointment and it felt right for both partys which was the most important thing at this time. He has not given Frank any specific goals for this season and has only met Harry Redknapp once on a charity golf do about 7 years ago. He said the time thing was important so the players can make adjustments ready for what is coming. He came across well and said that the reason for the time taken was due to the input of others and the fact that they wanted to get it right.

Alex Crook asked him outright that there were rumours that Harry Redknapp was involved as they were good mates.

Didn't king get the memo that he's mates with redknapp that's why he sacked robins to give his nephew a job?

Play off final with Derby
Champions League with a transfer ban and youth players at Chelsea
Survival with a shite Everton team
Failed at Chelsea along with many other world class managers.

Looking at that it's not a bad record really is it.

Well, we won't know until we know.

Just got to give Lampard a chance and let it all play out.

Lampards record is better than Robins’ record in 2017.

I really don’t understand the negative overreaction.

I find it baffling how many fans of other clubs want Lampard to fail (why do they dislike him? He’s a nice bloke)

I find it down right insanity that some city fans seem to want him to fail

There was never a safe option, even the most qualified coach would of been a gamble, look a tuchel, brilliant CV but just might not be right for England, Lampard just could be the right man at the right time, sometimes just need that bit of luck you’ve picked the right man, personally think he’ll do brilliant for us,

Play off aren't out of reach. A few wins and we will be in touching distance. We aren't even half way through the season yet. Remember we have a bigger, stronger squad then last year so we are less likely to run out of steam come the end of the season. Also, the next five games on paper are easier then the last 5 games. Only Millwall and West Bromwich Albion away look dodgy. . If we can get a couple of spawny wins we will start building momentum.
