Why i think league one will be good for us. (1 Viewer)

I think league one will be good or us cuz if we somehow survive this season then we will have to go through it all again next season. Whereas if we go down then i believe we would be one of the best footballing teams in that league. We will be contending for automatic promotion or at least the play offs. Yes if that happens we will probably lose key players e.g keogh and macca. Nowood and nimley are going back to their respective clubs anyway but we have a lot of young talent like clarke and bigi and christie who i think will flourish in league one after a good season for all of them this term. So of course i'd love us to stay up but if we do go down then maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all.:thinking about:

Don't underestimate league one. It's not the best, but unless we have dramatic changes within the club we're going to struggle yet again I feel.

Love your optimism..if we get bought and just a modicum of investment in the playing staff-not selling the kids, maybe a few 100-250k bargain signings and a cheeky bosman or two-then maybe. New broom, new regime, look to the future: we could be bouncing back better than Alan Partridge!

But under these owners? It'll be Keogh flogged and the kids gone at the first bid that comes in, replaced with more youth team players. And maybe Marcus Hall as player-manager at LB if his pitch for the job on CWR tonight was anything to go by.

It's make or break time-we either get bought and try to save our status as a top two division club, or we sink forever in the mire of the lower leagues from whence we came Pre-Hill era. Frightening times indeed.

thats the thing yes we need the money but we need to keep hold of players or get the most money possible for them. At the minute Sisu are just letting players go for ridiculuously low amounts of money when they are worth so much more.

We will probably have to go through all this again in League One next season, just the same as we would in the Championship.

That's the crux of it. We have been a shit outfit in terms of league standings for the whole of my life. I am not looking forward to relegation. I am looking forward to something different... a big clear out and see what the future holds.

I agree. We can argue about the managers relative merits or not (actually I think that is all we do argue about) but these are truly desperate times. The squad, which is poor, will lose its best players and even if new owners come in the history of the club and mediocre support base means we are about to go into the football equivalent of No Man's Land. A truly desolate place with no return.It's so bad I will now accept Thorn gets a 10 year contract if we survive. By the way, my alcohol intake is growing rapidly tonight so I apologise for any subsequent nonsense in advance.

erm isn't that what we said when we went down from premier league it would be disastorous for us friday I went too see torquay at the moment I feel they would not only beat us but we would be outclassed as most of our players would of gone. The ricoh would not survive on the income from div 1 at torquay the away fans amounted to about 100 and that's a generous figure, money income would drop dramatically I don't care who own us I want too win and then play well I was devastated when we were relegated to championship and to drop again would be umbearable

Take it from us fellas, L1 is a horrible place to be. We spent 8 years trying to get back up last time we went down. Finances are stretched alot more than it the NPC (I'm pretty sure our Chairman said promotion from L1 was worth ~£9M).
The standard isn't atall bad though and promotion for either of our clubs would not be a certainty and it would be hard earned.
Clubs may have bounced back recently but it's not easy, take it from our experiences down there.

You would not enjoy it if you do drop.

Except we would have to make further cuts to compensate for the £3-4m we'll lose by being relegated.

No,it won't be good for us. I remember similar threads on the official forum ten years ago saying a drop into division one will let us regroup and make us stronger. Look how its turned out. Its vital we avoid relegation.

I imagine it will be great fun watching Lee Burge pick the ball out of his net for the 5th time at Swindon, sure. The club's cost-cutting measures make it no better off in League 1 when revenue streams are cut accordingly and our expenditure remains very similar; it's just a shower of shite in a lower division. All things being equal we could be the worst league side in the West Midlands this time next year-worse than flipping Walsall.

Will league 1 be good for us?

- Our youth players will flourish playing against lower oppisiton
- We will be one of the biggest clubs in the league
- We will still keep our key players which will be able to gain confidence playing against weaker oppisition (Keogh, Craine, Murphy, McSheffery .. who would want to buy them?)
- If we go straight up we will play with lots of confidence because we will be use to winning games (Norwich, Southampton, Brighton ect)

I would say league 1 wont treat us that badly.

But dont think that IF we get relegated that league 1 wont be easy. They have some teams that will give us a tough test. Portsmouth, Doncaster will come down with us and Hudderfield will be there too. And the money from televised games wont be as much for us, the attendences will be lower; less money again.

There is a massive problem you are forgetting. We have a transfer embargo on us and i don't think sisu are in a position to get it lifted as they have no idea on how we will run financially next season. I fear for our future. Russian roulette seems to be being paid by our present owners and our perhaps new ones. Unless things get sorted and quickly we will be in the exact same position as last season.

We won't challenge for promotion under SISU, if we go down and SISU remain in charge the most I would expect is midtable mediocrity/top half finish.

Perhaps if you do go down it will precipitate administration. That would not be a good start to your campaign.

Well, sorry mate, but if this seasons performances are anything to go by, he has been arguably one of the best defenders outside of the premier league.

Some players work for one team and not others. Keogh works for us, whereas - for example - Louis Carey didn't

I honestly believe even if they get £5000 for any of the above players they will take it and replace them with a youth player on lower wages. They will argue it is necessary to make the club financially stable.

You are right keep that team then you have promotion and 5-9 million in the bank.

Like keep the Juke till the summer would have probably kept us up. sign 4-5 loan players may have kept us up. Or submit your books on time may have kept us up. Sisu chose to do the opposite to all of these.

We will be battling to stay in league one.

If you have a stadium of 32000 a potential of average gates of 24 to 25 thousand. You have to take that gamble and invest. Otherwise what is the point. What re SISU's long term aims what do they hope to achieve. A battle for relegation in league one will league to attendance of 9-12 thousand they will lose more money
