Who's been enquiring about Community Asset Transfer of the Ricoh? (1 Viewer)

Community Asset Transfer of the Ricoh was mentioned on here yesterday. I wanted more info so emailed locality.org.uk and got a very helpful reply which ended by saying 'We are also aware of others in Coventry interested in this...What appears to be required, I suggest, is a more co-ordinated and organised effort locally to take these ideas to the next level of development.' I don't know if the whole idea is a complete red herring but it would be useful to understand whether it is or not - so anyone out there also been contacting Locality?

I posted about it a few weeks back .. And cjcovblase.. Said the trust were aware that the stadium could be an ( asset of community value) .. And that several things were in the pipeline.. So could be the trust

Thanks George and Skyblue. I've been told the Trust aren't pursuing this which is why it could be done as part of Keep Cov in Cov campaign. Just needs a couple of people to put in a bit of time talking to Locality and working out if it's a decent option and what needs to be done. So kcic now is more interested in putting a status on a building than getting the management company to sell to the club so the club returns to Coventry?

Do you know what the status means?

Genuine question, I hadn't heard of it. Apparently it means that if the building is sold the community has a time period to buy it for the same price as was agreed. I.e. If Sisu bought it off the council for £6m then the community gets first refusal.

Michael are you sure it's not the Trust? Also do you actually have a case? Honest question, I'm not sure what community function the Ricoh provides. If doubt it has a long enough legacy as our home. More power to anyone who tries though.

shmmeee - I was told by a Trust Board member they're not pursuing it so assume that's the case. tbh I know sweet fa about this but as it's something people are talking about and has happened at other clubs I'd at least like to get a better understanding even if it's then clear it's not appropriate for ccfc. But need a couple of people to help out as above

I've seen the application form and to be honest (though I'm dosed up on meds and not at all clear headed right now) I had trouble making a case so I'm afraid no help here. I believe the main question is along the lines of "Please describe the community value of the asset". Maybe start with the likes of the wall of names and memorial garden I guess? I don't know enough about what happens there.

Good luck to anyone who tries though, every little helps and all that, especially a concrete move towards fan ownership.

You're right! I've now been told the Trust has almost finished its application and is being supported by Supporters Direct

It would definitely be a possibility, of course it could be classed as a community asset. Where would the money come from though? Also it would in my opinion need the support of at least one local councillor.

Any initiative based on community ownership of club and ground has to be a step in the right direction.

OK, let's imagine that the Trust get hold of the ground. How are they going to get the club from SISU. Or is the whole point that another team would be formed to play there.

In terms of registering as a community asset I don't see the point while we are not playing there. When it will be relevant is if Sisu buy the stadium, that way we could stop it having its use changed (i.e. to build houses, etc.). That's how I understand it anyway.

I think your scare tactics are wearing a little thin. How do you know we won't? And if there's even the slightest risk of that then wouldn't you advocate the club getting hold of the Ricoh? OR would you rather see the club fold?

They have threatened liquidation in the past. True or not?

We don't know when to believe them or not. To believe them all the time means they could liquidate and are not interested in the Ricoh. Not to believe what they say means they will not liquidate and want the Ricoh and nothing else.

Take your pick. Are they lying to us or not? Remember Timothy doesn't bluster and Joy won't be pushed about. But you like to pick faults in what people say either way....believing them or not......to go with what you say. I say I haven't got a clue whether to believe them or not, but good and bad come from either truth or lies.

Who do you trust the least? SISU for me as they have proved themselves to be lying. ACL maybe have but not seen any truth. Just hearsay from people that want them gone. Fans?????Of course. Certain people stating facts that certainly are not.

It is adjacent to the M6 so easy to get to,It can hold Concerts--exhibitions and indoor sporting events,making it

No it wouldn't, not without a decent hotel and railway access - even PWKH has said that.

The NEC has the m42 and m6, a Large railway station, airport and several hotels (inc. Hilton) in close proximity.

And it would be a commercial venture not a community asset.

No. What I said was that to develop further the next thing to build would be an hotel, we only have 140ish rooms at the moment and need more. We have to buy rooms from other hotels at the moment which although good for them...
