The only 'creative' central midfielders we have are Barton and Fleck, both have ability, both have shown glimpses of class, but people in this country, generally don't have the patience for these players, they want people who give 100% but not necessarily have the skills, I'll give you an example for today's CCFC, Elliott v Clarke. Fleck has got more assists than anyone in our team bar Baker, and Baker has played nearly every game this season, Barton has 3 goals, more than Sheff, yet, no one says he isn't up to it, 1 goal in 26 and he was meant to 'tear this league apart', with Sheff, he doesn't even have these moments of class like he did last season, for the wage he's on, he'd be one the 1st people out of the door for me, as with Wood, Bell and possibly Baker (getting old).

Of course Barton and Fleck have ability. The idea a pro footballer has ability is a given but glimpses arent enough. Neither of them affect the game enough when they are on the pitch.

I know you hate Sheff and he isn't without fault but 3 or 4 times per game he will create something. A classic case was early in the game yesterday with a great ball in that Clarke should have scored.
Sheff and Baker are both running out of time because of age and injury with Sheff but both still have more impact on any game that the new boys.

Keep;
Murphy, Christie, J Clarke, Wood, Edge, Willis, Adams, Baker, Jennings, Thomas, Moussa, Macca, Fleck, L Clarke, Elliott, McDonald
Out;
Dunn, Cameron, Malaga, Barton,
Loans to sign;
Bailey and Dickinson
Loans back to their club;
Ball

Too many stupidly dropped points this season, but the mid season run shows the core of the squad is good enough to win this league providing we add another goalscorer up front. Elliott works his socks off and adds a lot to us defensively but to win this league we need another goal-scoring striker, not really sure why that is not Cody as i thought he would score for fun in this league and we need a centre back who can organise the defence.

Oh and of course a decent Manager would be nice.

Absolutely agree. Bailey has been outstanding in some games. He maybe having a quiet patch now but all players do. I agree with Gren's list but would add Bailey and Moussa.

I genuinely believe we have an excellent keeper in Murphy and would prefer him to Westwood. Murphy makes some excellent stops and is particularly good in those one-to-one situations. I think we have some good players who could be the basis of a good team but there are many who just can't cut in, particularly in defence. Edge is pretty one-dimensional as is Cameron and Wood to some extent. I'd personally give Malaga another shot, we haven't got anything to lose.

Agreed with the point about our CB's and I think Malaga is harshly done by in comparison to them.

But Murphy better than Westwood? I think you're forgetting how good Westwood was, and at a higher level than this. He made at least one-usually several-certain goal saving saves a game for us. When he played in L1 last, he was by far and away the outstanding player in the division. I don't think we'd have gone down with Westwood in goal last season, he was worth an extra 12-15 points! And Murphy was pretty terrible last season IMO-his second consecutive relegation from that league. He's a good solid L1 keeper. Westwood is a top Championship-lower Premiership 'keeper.

Every player should be giving a 100%, regardless of who they are or how skilful they are. Surely that's the minimum requirement expected from a professional footballer?

Sure, but meanwhile, in reality...

Do you remember Eastwood?

Re: Malaga - if it was one manager there might be a case to say he has been hard done by, but shaw dropped him, robins transfer listed him and Carsley preferred to bring a kid (Willis) into the squad ahead of him.

These are people who see him train week in week out, whereas we just fondly remember his header that was cleared off the line

Yep, hence why we should have got rid of him earlier instead of hoping his 'ability' would eventually show.

I'm not disputing this Fleck stat necessarily.. but where did it come from as I cant get my head around it..?

I get all my stats from the Actim Index, most reliable there is, he's second including cup assists, which he has 0.

He set up McG's first CCFC goal under MR, superb cross, he got 2 v Swindon, he set up McG off 2 corners I think he got one v Stevenage, that's off recall and I can't remember the other 2, he may have set up Wood's v MK Dons (H) and possibly another corner.

Just stating this, we've scored from less set-pieces since Fleck has stopped taking them,I can only think of 1 goal (I'm sure there's more) that have come from a Sheff or Baker corner, v Walsall I think it was, the first, of many.

Baker appearances: 30 (2)
Fleck appearances: 15 (10)
Sheff appearances: 20 (6)

Matt Smith is shit, 3 goals in 10 (16) league appearances this season, had 2 good games against the Merseyside teams and people rave about him.

I remember v Sheff U (A) some tool suggested we brought Matt Smith in to replace Clarke, I nearly burst out laughing and restrained myself from saying 'behave, Clarke is better, he scores more goals, Smith had at the time, 1 good game.

Agree on Baxter, but if we signed him, he'd become another 'luxury' player.

Thanks for clearing it up, I weren't sure, it's why I said may, Fleck definitely has 6 L1 assists, according to the Actim Index.

I think we should look to get Joe Skarz in from Bury

His assists are 1 on the opening day vs Yeovil, 2 at Swindon, 1 at home vs Notts County. 1 at Stevange and 1 at home vs Crawley I think

Mcgoldricks 1st goal under Robins was from a Baker cross vs Carlisle at hone

What about Cody McDonald who's just came back to us? Scored goals for Gillingham, would you not start him a long side Clarke instead of Elliott?

In fairness Barton an Fleck are only 20/21 so the Eastwood comparisons aren't really fair as he was 28/29 an meant to be a senior player in the squad

I expect so, as his loan spells ended.

It was to the end of the season, just we have a '28-day recall clause'.

I don't see why we loaned him out in the first place he's a goal scoring machine!

You know what I mean he scores good goals, like when we played Birmingham at home last season.
