Fans at Borussia Dortmund's Westfalenstadion were among the first to spend the first 12 minutes and 12 seconds of a match in silence on Tuesday night in protest at measures proposed to control spectators.

Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl called the experience of playing in silence for the first part of his side's 1-1 draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf "weird".

Supporters remained quiet for the stipulated length of time - chosen to represent their role as their team's '12th man' - before counting down to zero and filling the stadium with noise.

After the match, Kehl told Der Westen: "We knew what was awaiting us. Those first 12 minutes were weird. The fans wanted to set a signal with the symbolic time 12:12. And not only our fans did that but many others in Bundesliga."

Campaign spokesperson Jan-Henrik Gruzecki told ESPN: "Of course, we are overwhelmed by the reactions. We have set a distinct example for the political hardliners. The whole stadium joined in. They have shown that not only a minority is opposed to the paper, but the majority of all football fans."

The protests have received a great deal of attention in Germany but, despite the coverage ahead of the games, Hamburg boss Thorsten Fink was not aware of the protests. "At the beginning I did not know why the fans were silent," he told the press after Hamburg's 3-1 win over Schalke 04.

"I thought, they might still be cross with us for playing poorly in Dusseldorf. But then somebody explained what it was all about."

Only joking guys. Interesting protest idea though, was looking for other football protests that made the news.

I too was handing out leaflets and had on supporter say but I am a season ticket holder am I allowed one. He took one to hold up during the game.

Then there was the other fans who gave us abuse saying it is all the councils fault and we should protest there?

What they didn't realise is that it was a duel protest against all parties involved shame really could have made it all white.

I had very similar responses, several Sixfield attendees asked what it was all about and once it was explained to them happily took the posters. Several arsenal fans also took posters and were very supportive. All very different to the gentleman (?) in row 5, block 24 who, when the first protest started went totally mental, screaming at those around him they were blaming the wrong group, that it was all CCC's fault and that we were all w*nkers. Fortunately his friends took him off before it got too out of hand.

How on earth can anyone say it is all the council's fault? And you are quite correct, it should be a protest and statement against all parties involved in this sorry mess.

Unlikely as I don't attend. If this incident took place I think we can guess who it was

Anyone with a brain can see that it isn't "all the Council's fault".

Grendel,
Whoops...meant to put a at the end of my post...was meant as just gentle humour. I can assure you that it did take place but I have no idea who the person was nor do I wish to know, so please don't feel the need to enlighten me.

It's politics Otis. Pure and simple. The rabid anti-council bunch have been rabidly anti-council since well before Sisu came on the scene. Usually about their bins, or perceived "incompetence" or some other bullshit. It really has nothing to do with CCFC.

Anyone with a brain can see it's a combination of SISU, ACL, CCC and BR who was the catalyst.

Is giving abuse expressing a difference of opinion?

Not all opinions are created equal torch.

Anyway, I made the thread hoping to get some more interesting fans protests. Guess I should've known better than to throw a cheeky dig in and it not turn into a bun fight.

Also: I made the same fucking joke that the first reply did in my thread title, yet I get no likes and he gets loads? WTF SBT?
