We have some negative fans on here. You have to question their reasons for criticism of our players that have worn Sky Blue with such distinction & no little passion this season.

50pts on the horizon at half way !
I don't get it.

Are you suggesting I'm negative?
I try my best to be positive and pragmatic at all times , I just don't see Grimes as an all time great

I want Jamie Allen to start 1 PL
game as captain, run around like a twat for 60 minutes, leave the pitch to a standing ovation and disappear off into the sunset mission accomplished.

Im not sure to be honest but would Lampard have signed him in January last year knowing there’s a chance we might go up thinking he’s not good enough for the prem, or would he have made him club captain, there’s arguments each way but its all based on opinion until the facts are confirmed

That's fair enough .
Personally see the Grimes signing as a Sheaf replacement as he was never fit . He's been incredible for us and long may it continue

Read this about Sheaf the other day on the Wrexham forum.

Remember us saying the same thing.

I think thats the only thing that makes it possible, if he had no injury issues he’d probably be a bigger figure for Liverpool

I suppose he always has stood out in a worse side, good player but we outgrew him

I never said that abt Sheaf.
Thought he was a liability mostly.

In the Prem, you need players with pace and physicality, a brilliant first touch and seem to effortlessly have space and time.
When he played for us, Hamer always seemed to have so much time to look up and pick a pass before anyone could get near him. PL teams don't fancy him at the price Sheff U want. His lifestyle might be the reason, as many claim, but he was voted the best player in the Championship last season and still no takers.
The question is, do we have any players that tick those boxes?
That said, rumours have PL teams tracking Rudoni and Haji. On form, they have the attributes, but the form of both due to injuries have been below par recently.
Look at Armstrong at Southampton who is currently top scorer in the Championship and looking class again. Couldn't cut it in the Prem.
Don't think any player in our squad is really ready for the Prem, but you can guarantee a couple will step up.
I really wouldn't try to predict who, because often it is a surprise to everyone.

That’s also quite a low bar if you are a Wrexham fan.

Not all players in the Prem have physicality, in fact some have it less than players in lower leagues

David Silva is one that sticks out in my mind that is 5'7'', pretty lean but up there with one of best midfielders the Prem has seen. That is primarily down to technical ability, so for me if you don't have physical strength you need to be incredibly technical, but have the stamina to maintain the level for 90 mins

With regards to the squad, Sakamoto is the closest to that grade, but not sure about his stamina and obviously technically not the level

Let's be honest, we are going to need at least 10x new players and most of our best starting 11 will either be on the bench or moved on

The difference between PL and Champ besides quality is the game is quicker, what sets apart the top champ players from the average/alright PL player is their speed of thought ability to read the game quicker. I heard that on the radio I think from a former PL manager

With Japan playing England at Wembley next year I would love Tats to get a call up so we can see what he would be like at that level (and maybe even sneak a world cup place) I know it likely wont happen but I want to dream for him.

That's good praise, but even if they're a supporter of 50 years plus, this is a higher level than they've seen their club play at before.

I mean, Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones and the like, but they were a good while ago now.

Terry Yorath was here too, he wasn't too rubbish.

You've also got to remember that fitness levels were below those of today and a lot of players were boozers, we can't really tell if those players would have been better if they were around today and looked after themselves.

Yeah true, the game's definitely moved on yet when I watch the old highlights or whatever they're probably doing similar thing's, remember the 4-2-4?

Thought it was Milne could have been Sexton or someone else.
Or modern technical games where on the TV you can see players in defensive shape contract almost into a solid circle and then explode from it.

Maybe I am that old then, I remember Cantwell & Milne being managers.
I thought you were referring to something out of the 50's or early 60's.

I remember a home game against Southampton (??) and he got absolutely nailed by one of their players who then berated him on the floor ,Hunt got up and dropped him with a headbutt received a red card and was carted off on a stretcher .
He was a proper player , hard as nails

I also remember Donal Murphy doing the 'hard as nails' Kenny Burns, and John Aloisi doing likewise to a gobby Danny Mills.

If/when we go up, I guarantee, Ben Wilson will have a fucking renaissance and get the PL golden glove.
