Is it Rudoni's dress sense that offends you?

It’s not the players so much but the fact we would have to change the way we play.

We have such a high line and constantly leave space exposed at the back. If we play the way we play now in the PL then we would get slaughtered by better players with more pace and skill.

I always think back to the Watford game where Baah and Vata with their pace combined with our ultra attacking tactics caused problems all game even at 3-0. If they were half decent at finishing or Rushworth wasn’t so good then we would have conceded a lot.

The flip of this is that spending that kind of money you’re likely to land on at least 1 or 2 that you could sell for a hefty profit even if relegated. Sunderland could probably get £30m each for their keeper and Mukiele if they were to go down, for example.

Well look at what Ipswich got for Delap.

It's more physique than raw talent . Personally think Grimes wouldn't cut it against most 6s in the Premier League

I think the most important 'keep' would be FL. He knows the PL inside out, much more than the championship and he knows who would make it and who wouldn't.
Thomas would definitely, Milan, too and maybe De Silva. From midfield Grimes would do well as would Torp, Eccles, a player i always think was similar to Shipley, but where is he now.
Asante, Wright, Saka, and all the forward could make it with belief.
Looking back I never rated Hately but look what he did with belief. There is a thin line between failure and success and if a person, like Asante, gets the right coaching staff and has the belief and faith to do well they can move mountains.

Congrats on your derby win yesterday. Now a much better team than the last one we played.

Still a massive bunch of freaks though - I know loads of you, unfortunately! Enjoy your season and hopefully we will meet again next year.

Feels a bit premature and tempting fate but I think realistically you're replacing pretty much the entire squad. At best most of our current players would stick around as backups. While we've seen players improve under the current coaching setup how much more improvement can be made?

The defence regularly looks shaky as it is. Maybe MVE gets a start but the rest would need replacing and they'd need to sign Rushworth or a replacement unless they are very confident in Dovin after him being out for so long.

Rudoni has probably got a chance but you need him in a much stronger midfield. The likes of Tats and Torp might be OK options off the bench.

Much as I love Wright and Simms if we're promoted you're probably looking at a very limited number of chances to score per game, would need someone who has a high conversion ratio.

The flip side is pretty much replacing an entire squad makes it very difficult to get off to a good start. Don't think its a coincidence that we had the same side starting this season and got going the way we did.

My thinking is Grimes reads the hame so well is so good technically, covers so much ground with ease and breaks up play and dictates games. He’d easily make the step up for me

Realise we may yet get relegated, but interested on people’s thoughts.

Just watched the Tyne & Wear derby. A tepid bore-fest of unparalleled dullness. But it made me realise, to be competitive, are we going to have to change almost our entire “best 11”?

Sunderland were pretty decent, but had about 2 players starting who played in the playoffs (a few more came on as late subs).

Who from the current squad makes our Prem 1st 11?

For me it’s the following…

Rushworth (when we sign him permanently)
MVE
Rudoni

And I think that’s about it. Am I wrong?!

Reality is it will be a completely different team and has to be. Only ones who can get into a starting 11 will be:

Rushworth
MVE
Grimes
Rudoni (from last season form not current)
Tatsu

All totally hypothetical at this point of course….. But if promoted, we would need the kind of fast centre back who you find in top divisions but not often in the Championship. We’d probably sign 2 CBs leaving Kitch and Bobby to jostle for starting places.

I could see Grimes in a double pivot with another more physical CDM but not sure FL would want to play like that. Not sure about Torp but I don’t think pace is the issue. Not many CMs are fast. Strength and stamina are more important imo. A fully fit and firing Rudoni should be given a chance.

Wright and MVE you’d have said definitely a few months back but they’d need to seriously up their levels from recent games albeit Wright was better on Saturday.

3 or 4 others could be half decent squad options and may even kick on another level.

I strangely think Simms is more likely to do some damage in the Prem than Wright.

Simms is a bit more of a throwback to an older era of centre forward that isn’t utilised as much in the Prem anymore.

I don’t think Wrights pace / touch wil count for as much in the Prem.

Wright is an international footballer TBF, he's got a good chance of making it in the Prem, especially now he's improved his upper body strength

Grimes is certainly one of our best championship players ever. Agreed.

But to consider him one of our best players in midfield ever is far fetched.

He's good for the odd 5 minutes in games we are chasing but he is nowhere near athletic enough for the prem. Thats from someone who loves him.

Can't compare Hutch with a centre mid.
Dennis' nickname was Doris which spks volumes. I just saw someone else nominating Steve Hunt. That's scraping the barrel. Really rated Emerson really good holding midfield player. A great tackler..couldn't pass like Grimes though.

We have some negative fans on here. You have to question their reasons for criticism of our players that have worn Sky Blue with such distinction & no little passion this season.

50pts on the horizon at half way !
I don't get it.

We can think they've done phenomenally this season while also not ranking them among the best to have ever played for the club.

Im not sure to be honest but would Lampard have signed him in January last year knowing there’s a chance we might go up thinking he’s not good enough for the prem, or would he have made him club captain, there’s arguments each way but its all based on opinion until the facts are confirmed
