David Thompson on the Undr The Cosh podcast and while he says very little about his time with Cov he does say:

McAllister recommended him to Strachan
Bellamy was the first on the training ground and last off it and really beat himself up about missing chances
Some of our players weren't too bothered about getting relegated as they were being shown up in the PL and going down bought them some more time at the club

So, who do we think he's on about with the latter comment? He mentions being shown up by strikers, so most likely Willo and Shaw?

Doubt it Shaw had spent his whole career in the top flight and Williams stayed in it after we were relegated

Never forget Williams refusing to sign a new contract and everyone thought he was leaving (to wolves if memory serves me correctly)....then we offered him £10k a week to stay

Never rated him in the slightest. Sure I read somewhere years ago that he was very hard on Bellamy, chopping him down in training etc until Hartson came in and put a stop to it.

I’m guessing Delorge, Martinez and Phillip Clement or Runar Norman they got game time in the championship/division 1

Konjic didn’t become a first teamer until the division 1 days did he? Was injured quite a lot in the prem

Could throw in Guerrrero. If I recall - Gary Breen didn’t hit his potential until his final season in the championship

You're wrong about Breen, the team of Gary Breens song started the relegation season as he was decent (he'd shown in 98 during the good spell we had then what a good player he was)

Clement was long gone - shame as he turned into a top defender once he left us and was moved from midfield. Never really felt he was given much of a chance by Strachan.

Clement was a top player you could see that broke his cheek bone in one of his first games and never really got a chance after. Went on to win over 30 caps for Belgium at centre back.

A book (Strachan’s autobiography maybe?) that was released a fair few years ago was very interesting reading when it came to Big Mo.

Looking back that Bellamy signing was just an absolute load of toss. Strachan spunked our budget on an unproven (at that level) youngster who was coming off the back of a serious injury. Crazy.

Shame Thommo didn't have more to say about his time here, absolutely loved him in a City shirt. Didn't realise that injuries hit him so young (in the video he says an injury at 25 just about finished his career and he retired at 29).

Disagree, Bellamy’s time at Norwich was similar to Keane’s at Wolves before he came here that suggested he’d be a perfect replacement. However it was the two fingered salute to the west end that was his down fall.
Keane was loved and I don’t think Bellamy or anyone was going to live up to that.

Aah my bad - memory isn’t what it used to be. I remember being gutted when he left.

Be interesting to hear what CJ read about Konjic - I remember when he signed it was seen as a coup but he was injured for quite sometime if I remember

It was along the lines of strachan not believing his injuries were real

Probably the likes of Edworthy and Marcus Hall, Probably Shaw as he was in his early 30s when we were relegated. Maybe Chippo who did alright for us in Div 1/Championship but never made the step back up to the PL. Most of the rest either left to PL clubs or were only fringe players at the time of relegation anyway.

It was something like he was injured constantly so Strachan threatened him with something contractual. As soon as that happened he was back out on the training pitch in no time injury free. I’ve seen accounts from two different places that pretty much match that story but I was a little bit dubious given that Mo had fought in a war not long before so didn’t seem like the type to not put a shift in.

It was probably a ploy to get attention off Strachans favourites, Mo always struck me as unlucky

The difference being though that Bellamy was coming back from a cruciate injury. Don't get me wrong, I think he's one of our worst ever signings and a genuinely hard to like person, but I think Strachan was off in thinking Bellamy was the answer.

People look back fondly on Mo, and he was certainly a favourite during the our years in the championship. Before that he had only made about 20 appearances for us, and the overwhelming majority of appearances made for us were in the Championship. Somebody mentioned Edworthy, but he is the opposite of Konjic, the majority of his appearances for us were in the premiership. He also played in the premier League for Norwich... To be honest, it could be many a player, Clinton wouldn't be the only footballer with the "it's Cov Innit" attitude, we had a few average players who we had bought for decent money and were probably earning a decent wedge as well...

Thompson oozed class. He was the sort of player you'd never tire of watching.
