If the Romours of COH and Dadashov are true.

What other positions do we need to fill or cover.

Left back, Centre back and another midfielder ?

If that's true then a lwb is a must (if we are planning to play the same formation) and then I think I'd be happy if we didn't sign anyone else but a cb would be nice but not essential

Lb/LWB is essential. If have the money then a player to compete with kelly, a CB if we play the 3 cbs again, if we got o hare would we need another number 10? And then a better back up goalie.

LWB for definite and also probably another striker. Maybe another CM and a back up CB as well.

A LWB with a Dabo-like engine (first XI)
A young striker with the talent to change games on his own (first XI)
An experienced striker with some physical presence (bench/first XI)
An experienced CB who is composed on the ball (bench/first XI)
An experienced CM capable of marshaling a Championship game (bench)

Definitely a LB/LWB (unless DaCosta is cover for there, but I doubt it).

Maybe need a CM as I'm not sure Shipley/Allen/Westbrooke would be good enough cover for the deeper DM slot should Kelly or Hamer get injured.

A LWB is a must have, followed closely by a striker. After that as other people have said another experienced CB would be helpful. DM is an odd one, how much does Robins rank Eccles and Young. Could one or both of them strp up and challenge?

  1. Cover for McFadzean/Hyam in case either is not up to the tempo in the Championship (nobody ever said Hyam is quick). This might be Dacosta and Pask. Nobody really knows much about either.
  2. Replacement for Sam MacC (Mason not up to it - too easily bullied, Dacosta is not a left back)
  3. Striker who can play off Godden, should we want that option (a loan?)
  4. Cover for Kelly (a loan)

Stick to the existing formula - concentrate on younger players with potential (MacF was an exception). No old codger has beens. That fits the business model
Two good loans plus one purchase or free.
Hang on to Rose

LB or LWB should be a guarantee. Would it not be a bit brave to not bring in a winger? 15 games in and the system gets found out, what options would we have?

I know we have Jobello and Jodi but I wouldn't be confident starting them if we needed a formation change.

In 3 years only Bayliss and Shipley have come through from Youth. And that was in both cases in L 2. It is going to be even harder in the Championship. So unless they are outstanding (Newton?) we are unlikely to see any of the youth players break in without at least one loan spell to (say) a League 2 side, now we are the higher level. That is why the Development programme - Westbrooke, Hyam, MacCallum, Dabo - is such a good thing. "Pret a Play" as it were.

Id save a loan slot for that eventuality I think. Don’t want to sign someone to be third choice in your backup formation on our budget.

A couple of highly rated premiership bench warmers on loan. Chelsea have too many strikers. I would expect something like that to happen and be a big surprise again. A club like Man City where Pep would see his loanee play a similar style out on loan which would favour us to get such a player.

Yeah I would be happy with that. I guess ideally we would sign someone who could play at the top of the box as well as out wide. Or even a LWB who can play on the wing as Giles was billed as.

We need a couple more but we shouldn't over do this, according to some Barnsley fans one of the reasons they've struggled so much is due to not having a settled squad... I'd rather follow Sheffield uniteds approach and gradually build the side... It's worked wonders keeping alot of players together

We seem to have quite a few centre mids, will be very conjested... Shipley, Allen, O’Hare, Hamer, Kelly, Westbrooke. Behind them you’ve also got Eccles, Young and that lad from Southampton Bartlett when he returns from his ACL injury.

One can only dream and sell Westbrooke and Kelly and bring in Walsh but that ain’t gunna happen.

Realistically a LWB, CB and a striker and I reckon we are about done.... unless we can sell Baka and bring in a second new striker.

Garbutt seems good from people’s comments and Ugbo on loan would be nice, would prefer him to Dadashov and Viveash at least knows him. Don’t think we really have a chance for Shankland, nor would we afford him. Can’t really think of a CB, any suggestions?

If Bournemouth go down I can picture someone like West Ham going for Wilson which might generate us some money.

Obviously this is all a wish list... One can only dream

We definitely need a LWB as everybody agrees. then I think we need cover for McFadz and Kelly incase of injury or inability to step up then a striker to challenge Godden.

It's already been said, but cover for Kelly is essential. Maybe cover isn't the right word - competition, perhaps. Pask could be the answer, but if Kelly got injured in game one of the season I'd be concerned about how we'd cope. And the left wing back role needs an extra player too. Other than that, I think we're OK. A striker would be nice, but if we only play one up top then we may already have enough bodies in (whether they are good enough or not is a different question).

Pask could be the cover for both Fadz and Kelly I guess. Of course what happens if they both got injured? I guess at the mo we'd either have to consider bringing in one of Williams, Drysdale or Eccles for a bit which would prob be asking a bit much of them at that level right now.

Usually agree with you Dreamer but slightly different views on this one.

Not buying into the current fashion of players being played out of position and suddenly becoming Championship superstars (for example the idea of playing Pask in midfield and someone else was suggesting switching Dabo into midfield as well).

The way I see it; if Kelly is injured in a midfield, we have cover in Westbrooke and Shipley in a midfield 3. I see O'Hare more as a 10 linking with Godden in our formation.

If Fadz is injured I'm even more comfortable, as we have cover in Dacosta and Pask. Given the extra pace of Dacosta and Rose I wouldn't be surprised to see both starting lots of games next season in a 3 man central defence.

The biggest loss to our team as of now would be Godden, I love Max and have time for Baka but as off the bench options vs. starting in the Championship.

As would I, just think there's something there... Big, powerful could play off the shoulder with his pace... It's been done before....

Of course Allen, Shipley and at a push Westbrooke would be the first to think of replacing Kelly. But Allen and Shipley are both more attack minded. Westbrooke doesn't really like getting stuck in tackle wise. None of them have the physicality of Kelly.

That's why I thought of Pask - defensive minded, but with a bit of pace and seems capable of pushing a bit further forward if necessary.

Would probably depend on the opposition and whether we felt we needed extra defensive stability or the technical attributes of the other choices.

As I see it today
First 11
Marosi
.
Mc fadz
Rose. Hyam

Dabo Mason
Hamer. Kelly

Allen
O’Hare

Godden

With subs/squad
New lwb
Baka
Biamou
Pask
Dacosta
Drysdale
Shipley
Westbrook
Eccles
Jones
Jobello
Kastaneer
New striker

Interesting with jones and jobello (unknown after injury) along with max and Baka all attacking players ...might need to sell one or more if we get someone else in.

Are Pask, Dacosta, drysdale and new lwb strong enough cover at back?

Shipley and westbrooke good cover for attacking midfield. Eccles not enough for defensive midfield cover

CB and LWB are definitely needed, along with a Striker.

CB for competition not as a back up to the 1st team like Pask.

LWB just because we need one, although I do like mason.

Striker to compete with Godden.
