Thin on quality in the CM squad depth then. It’s the fact we’ve sold our captain and a very good CM and now have to promote Allen and Andrews in the pecking order, where people were arguing prior to the end of the window Andrews needs a loan and Allen isn’t at the level anymore. But instead we are now reliant on them as squad players.

Yes the wings are paper thin, the final day letting Rapha and Sheaf go without replacement is bizarre.

Whichever way we try and dress it up, the transfer window in terms of outgoings and incomings has been a cock up.
Incomings yes

I actually think we’ve actually handled player exits fairly well.

we’ve just got to have a bit of good fortune till January and then I’m convinced we’ll spend again

That in my opinion will be too late. Don’t get me wrong, it is not that I wanted the club to panic and spend silly money but our depth is not ideal and when we play the genuine top 6 clubs it will be evident how short we are when you see the strength they have on the bench v ours.
look at Boro or Ipswich squad and the level they have not in the first 11 is scary, and players who have the ability to come on and change a game. I fear what we bring on is just to try to keep some sort of shape.

I hope we’d be ok. It’s a game once a week at the moment.

It’s frustrating but there should be enough just about to see us through. Can see Eccles becoming a really key player.

Frustrated with the recruitment how we’ve been left wanting yet again

Jamie Allen I don’t think is good enough anymore but it would be so Jamie Allen on his first game back to just play a blinder

You enjoy championship football because we’re now a decent team in this division.

A single PL season, done correctly, would cement our place at the top end of the Championship for several years to come

I'm not sure teams know how to do it properly.

The thing is, we could do an Ipswich and it would be great for a year but it quickly turns. Their fans are now entitled and are currently disappointed with their window. If they don't go up this season, it will be a failure.

I bet the atmosphere and excitement at Ipswich this season won't be as good as it was 2 seasons ago.

I worry people aren't enjoying the 'journey' because they are getting worked up about us potentially missing out again.

True, and in that sense 2023 was the missed opportunity.
As a group of fans, we would've accepted the relegation back down to the Championship, and then enjoyed the first season back down.

If we did that now there would be a sense of entitlement from us

Good post. I agree.

'The window was poor in general and the end of it was a bit of a shit thing to do to fans'.

and

'Doug king has been a good owner and buying the stadium is fantastic'.

Those two statements can be true at the same time. Frustration that we weren't able to improve more doesn't mean you want to sack the board and burn everything down.

Some of you lot are so fucking dramatic for grown adults.

I think this was the year to really have a go. No team will get to 100 points this season never mind 2. 3 extra quality players to make the squad 25 could really have made the difference. If it didn't work out we have 5 or 6 players we could have sold on to balance the books at the end of the season if required and started again.

Crikey, there is some tactical nonsense weaved in with ridiculous expectation here. We’re now meant to have a squad that has 3 first teamers for every position and that has to be expanded to accomodate midfield nuances as well. It’s ridiculous. We have 6 players capable of starting in midfield. We’ll be fine.

Which is what we've done, we've kept hold of Rudi, Haji and MVE.

A few things:

- Don't think this is an Austin problem. His role was described at the fans forum as a service providing a list of options in each position. The manager then picks the players & Doug negotiates

- Doug seems to drive a hard bargain & will only pull the trigger if he sees a lot of value in the deal. Difficult to do in an inflated market which has made it an average window

- Eccles/Andrews can really play a part this season. Both academy lads in the first team - most fans love that but ours are the opposite. Eccles has shown he can do it (Sunderland) & other teams are having success playing teenagers. Why not us?

- We're going to rue the lack of wingers more than CM. We only have two - EMC is apparently carrying something & Saka was unable to start the last 3 games due to injury

Shift more of the deadwood, sign a player to replace our captain and not leave us in a position to consider full backs as cover for on the wing
I meant communication wise.

I’m sure we wanted to do more in the window. I get the feeling that DK is potentially the reason why we didn’t- our dealings under him seem pretty rigid, and if they don’t happen that’s it.

Are you questioning the owner who bought us a stadium?
