Wow. I’m happy to be proved wrong and will retract if I am but surely the song in that clip is “While the sky is blue” not “It’s for life son” .

Sky Blue Land

An adaptation of the Best song of Australian Rules Football, Richmond's 'Tigerland'.

I'm no Richmond fan but it's easily best song. Widely acknowledged as well throughout Australia.

Each club has their own song, played as players run through a paper mache banner on pitch and played again if your team wins.

When you win and sing your song it's almost as good as an MVE celebration.

At the Ricoh early years we had some Aussie bloke (was it Mel someone) who introduced some special post match song for after a win that was actually quite catchy. Anyone know what that was?

we also definitely used to play final countdown at highfield in an early premier league season when M&b stand first had plastic seats put in.

We did have that at HR during the last few seasons, I think.

Yes.

I'd be highly surprised if it was anything other than a tribute act though.

We had the Final Countdown for a short period in the mid 90's too.... possibly the Phil Neal era.... before Mr Blue Sky

Yes it is while the sky is blue, apologies I thought you were saying we never ran out to while the sky is blue. My bad.

Watching the players coming out reminds me of the little things about that time, the players having a little kick about with the mascots, the tin can tannoy, the sky blue cheerleaders, a lot simpler time watching us beat Arsenal. My first night game!

I think the Final Countdown was used in the last season at HR.
Some bright spark thought it was appropriate without ever listening to the lyrics being about “heading to Venus”

Does anybody else have nostalgia for this song?

I get it’s slightly naff, but I remember hearing it in the shop for my first visits to Highfield Road in the late 90s, so I associate it with that incredible excitement of my first live football matches. I’m probably in the minority, but would love to hear it on more match days in the playlist before the rendition of WLADITT.

Fuck me! Got this gathering dust on a shelf somewhere, though not quite sure where... It's appalling stuff, but with enough drink under your hat, a great sing-along.

Wasn't Ready To Go just used by the PL as a sort of 'theme song' for a while. Playing it before a game was probably like having the song they play before CL games.

One was same age as me, think we were 16 at the time. I kept trying to shag her but she wouldn’t let me.

MI5 should play it as a form of audio torture on repeat in interrogations

It was John Harbin that did that. He was an Australian fitness coach who was here under Iain Dowie. As you say, it's an Aussie rules or rugby league song originally.

Bloody hell yeah you’re right, I remember that. Very different times

Final Countdown was definitely HR. I was only old enough to have a ST the last 2 years there and it’s a strong memory of it.

Song memories of Ricoh are:
Frattelis when we scored around 07/08 (along with pretty much most championship teams)
Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap after full time around 2010—> (even after a win witch was quite an odd celebration song).

I was still fairly young when we were at HR, but I recall all of these songs.

Great nostalgia and I wouldn’t be opposed to a few making it into the pre game mix.

I’m sure they can transition from Tiesto to Sky Blue Believer…..

The sky blue belles turned up for the first game of season against Forest (the one where Campbell got a hat trick) and they’d booked The Crew as well and I don’t think anyone told them, and they had to leave. Sure they were at side of pitch waiting to go on - it was a right goat rodeo.
Or have I made that up?

I went to see Palace vs Villa yesterday and they had cheerleaders at halftime. Clearly only unsuccessful in Cov haha.
