I remember when we signed Wayne Turner and me and my mates laughed, stating that someone called Wayne should never ever play professional football.

Of course, then Wayne Rooney came along and it became cool again.

Good footballing names are, IMHO ...

Bobby
Dave
Pete
Johnny
Steve
Mike
Kyle
Sam
Matt
Billy
Alan
Tommy
Terry
Danny
Nick
Charlie
Tony

Names that should be nowhere near a football field.

Nigel
Tarquin
Rupert
Sebastian
Humphrey
Dominic
Cyrille (sorry, Big C).
Egbert
Chester
Basil
Augustine
Irving
Oswald

Is Baker a first name? There is Baker Mayfield, the American footballer, but the Yanks are bonkers anyway.

Stretching it slightly to middle names but they are corkers - Bob Primrose Wilson and Larry Valentine Lloyd.

Surely Roy is a good football player's name as in "Roy of the Rovers"?
