Not wishing to jump the gun, but I'm 99.9% sure of promotion. But where do we think we'll finish our first season in the Premier League?
I reckon mind table. Thoughts?

Depends on recruitment, impossible to say, with the current squad bottom 3 for sure, but some improvements could see us higher

Expecting a long tough season and relegation.
Hoping, that given the nature of our promotion, which has been some achievment, Lampard can pull something else extraordinary out of the bag.

So you think the other 2 teams currently 9 & 11 pts below us would have a better season?

Who’d have thought Leeds and Burnley would struggle a lot more than Sunderland have?

If we can somehow escape relegation and then build on it to try to emulate the likes of Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth, I’d be chuffed.

I back us to do better than who else comes up, but need to see who joins Burnley and Wolves before deciding if we have a shout at 17th.

Anything but relegation is a huge accomplishment. To be honest even a close relegation battle will be an accomplishment.

Pure hopium but.....
If we were to go up this season I think there is a small opportunity of having a better chance of survival than usual thanks to the World Cup. Recruit a team of players who aren't in the tournament, or are out by the business end and they get their holidays earlier and are back on the training pitch earlier, fitter for the start of the season. I think they could have a better chance in the early stages of the season against teams who have a significant number of players who will effectively be still playing until mid/late july then still on holidays into early August.
Get the recruitment done early, get the holidays early and have a better chance of staying up?

If you offered me escaping relegation on the last day of the season via goal difference right now I'd snap your hand off.

Unless someone comes in with loads of cash I don't think we're going to go crazy with new signings. Just doesn't seem the way King will go. If that's how things play out then staying up would be a major achievement.

First priority is getting past the lowest ever points total.

Top half. A lot of top quality younger players will want to sign for us as we can give them game time. Frank will develop a fun atmosphere built on respect and camaraderie that will shine through and produce some outstanding performances.

History suggests that we're more likely to go down than not but I'm quite content with that. It will have no bearing on how drunk I'm going to get celebrating the title this season when the moment comes.

Hopefully we surprise a few and finish 17th next year but if not we should be well equipped financially to make a really strong challenge again in 27/28.

Goal is to finish above the 2 clubs you're promoted with and A N Other. There is always a club being poorly run and managed (see Spurs), so hopefully we can can finish above whoever that is. Also 2nd season syndrome for Sunderland and Leeds (straw clutching )

Sunderland spent £204M (£164M in the summer and £40M in Jan)
Leeds Net spend was £90M and Burnley £57M

Everyone if you compare how much they spent compared to Leeds & Burnley.

Conversely Sunderland had a lot more work to do to their squads than either of those clubs. Leeds are a better comparison I think.

In reality it’s impossible to tell without seeing who we sign and who comes up and goes down

Totally agree. Like Kieran Maguire (the Football Finance guy) said, sign 4 or 5 quality players the first year, hopefully stay up and then add another 4 or 5 quality players the next year and keep building like that.

Kieran said that in Brighton's first year in the Prem their football was horrible to watch but they managed to stay up. Then they were able to keep adding quality and improve their football and are in a very strong position now. Likewise Bournemouth.

Bottom three if I'm honest

But I'm happy to be proved wrong with some very cute and clever signings that we may never have heard of
