Dark times indeed as we fell down the leagues. Homeless. Hopeless. No future.

On the other side seeing this club rise again under the return of Robins - the last 7 years have by far been the most amazing and meaningful times in supporting the club.

My first game was in 1978 and nothing compares to our rise from 2027, team unity, the connection with the fans and moments of a lifetime at the CBS (now our real home), last minute winners, the sensational night at County, the form taking us into the play offs in 2023, Hamer's goal at Wembley (for me the most emotional City moment in my life), Hadji at Wolves and the simple disbelief of our comeback against United.

The dark days have resulted in creating moments that makes us all feel incredibly connected and proud of this club - I wouldn't have it any other way.

I remember feeling very disillusioned early in our championship relegation season under Andy Thorn. We were 1-0 up after 92 minutes at Crystal Palace and managed to lose the game 2-1. It was only the 3rd/ 4th game of the season i think, but even at the point i knew we were going down.

Nothing will ever top the Mark Venus/ Russell Slade era though. It felt like there was absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel.

I wrote the exact same thing about that Palace game. The football was awful and the defeat inevitable. A truly dreadful manager but unfortunately most of the fanbase became detached from reality around that period.

For some reason I thought it was in September but it was actually mid-August and we still hadn’t managed to get a point.

It’s so painful looking back & Christ have we been fortunate not to drop out of the league ?
My most bizarre moment of all the Sisu shite , was at the Wimbledon away game , Russell Slade another of our desperate managers , giving Yukubu his debut as a sub & him putting his shirt on back to front & thinking “ we’re fucked “ !

Losing to Darmstadt 2-0 in a preseason friendly surely ranks as one of our darkest hours as a club?

The darkest hour for me was when it was announced we were leaving the Ricoh for the second time, I thought the vile bastards SISU will not be happy until they’ve killed us off altogether !

Away to Gillingham when Peter Reid was manager was possibly the worst away match i went to.

3-1 defeat, between xmas and new year.

The venom directed at Reid (and the players) as they left the pitch was something else.

I was at that game too. Cant remember who it was but our on loan keeper committed an awful error and that set the tone for the whole game. A genuinely awful performance and Reid must have known his time was running short... His face as he walked to the changing room told it's very own story. Loads of abuse from the SBA that was richly deserved.

Edit. Was it Luke Steele in goal for us ?

I'm sure the floodlights failed once back in the 60's. It was pretty dark then.

I always thought it was Scott Shearer.... but looking at the records online, it seems Steele was in goal and Shearer on the bench.

Any point of 2016-17 where we had Nathan Clarke wearing number 7 in the worst kit in our history while Russell Slade is sat in the dugout

Not reading through 8 pages to see if someone else has commented on this, and I know squad numbers mean fuck all, but that just highlighted how much of a laughing stock we were at the time. You can just imagine Clarke jokingly asking for the 7 and someone somewhere has gone “yeah, ok”.

That or “Onye, it’s a fucking elephant”.

The Mark Venus/Russell Slade tenures and it isn't even close for me

At least at Northampton (as embarrassing as the state of the club was at the time) we did between the start of the season and the end of January manage to get a tune on the pitch - I think at the point Leon Clarke left had it not been for our 10 point deduction we would have comfortably been in the Play-Off spots! We had some good away days that season, MK Dons, Wolves, Rotherham, Barnsley in the Cup to name a few, Unsurprisingly though when Clarke downed tools and demanded a move and Wilson picked up an injury we fell off a cliff, always felt Pressley put his heart and soul into the job as well and despite falling on his feet inheriting Wilson, Christie etc. he deserves a pat on the back for wiping our 10 point deduction completely within the first month of the season

16/17 despite playing in Coventry was harrowing, Venus the most arrogant and dislikable bloke I have seen at this football club and Slade who I do not doubt was an alright bloke was hopeless as a manager, combined with the worst squad of footballers I have ever seen who (with a few notable exceptions) had a stinking horrible attitude and despite being disgraceful in the League campaign never really got the criticism they deserve because they won a Mickey Mouse trophy that not many others took seriously, Horrible horrible season, pasted most weeks in the worst kit this club has ever produced - If it hadn't been for Robins coming in I genuinely reckon I would have sacked it off after that season, from Aug 2016 till MR took over whilst I loved CCFC of course, I genuinely started to hate it at the same time - Weird times looking back
