Once in a generation? Give over. Well be back within the next three years max.

Getting £7m a year for the next 3 seasons is a huge boost to the coffers.

Well folks it wasn't to be in the end. To be critical for a moment. We did not get going first half and Luton dominated. They were well deserving of their lead. The box midfield we employed so well at Middlesbrough failed to work well at Wembley against different style of opposition. The change at half time clearly changed the game and we were the dominant team, scoring a very good equaliser. Luton were on the rack at that point but somehow we failed to capitalise on it. They eventually got back into it and both teams played out a non discript extra time where neither team threw any punches. And so the penalty lottery. Great pens from both sides. When Dabo stepped up I bet all of us suspected this had miss written all over it? Yes? Of course we did. He looked scared to death. My question is why didn't Panzo (who has a great left foot) or even Faz or Bidwell step up? The worst thing is the penalty was not saved but wildy missed! Casey Palmer went off who would have been a penaly taker. Must admit Wilson did get close to one or two. Their goalie could hardly move, someone should have said hit it low in either corner. But alas it just wasn't our day this time.
Next season we will be without hamer and Vik for sure. But we will see the re-emergence of O'Hare and some shrewd signings will see us challenge next season for the automatic places. Once the disappointment settles the reality of what we achieved this season will inspire the cause next season. I'm going to look forward to it and give a wave to Luton on their immediate way down as we go up. Oh how things can quickly change. We are back folks.

I don’t think it’s £7m extra, it’s what we would have got anyway for being in the Championship. The table is trying, badly, to show difference between being promoted by the playoff and losing.

I saw £20m being quoted earlier in the thread. The only £20m we will get is from the sale of Vik and Gus.

The central distribution is, the solidarity payments are for the losing side.

All EFL clubs get solidarity payments which are a share of the PL broadcasting rights.

Yeah, not just us, solidarity payments for all Champ clubs.... it was just a comparison of staying in the Championship vs going up to the Prem, using P/O finalists as compared recipients

Great read and pretty much spot on, I think we all know the vik and hamer situation, if we could manage to keep hamer and get some decent money for vik then i think we could put a decent side together, hope robins finally gets some money to spend this summer, he’s worked miracles so far on hardly any budget, dont expect king to throw loads of money at it but it’s time to find out if he’s serious or not, personally think we won’t be far off again next season,

On a slightly unrelated note. Did anyone actually enjoy any of the play offs at all? Think I enjoyed about 20 seconds when hamer scored at Boro and maybe 30 mins after the boro second leg. Apart from that it was genuinely horrible. Can we go up automatically next season please???

Great post. Plus, most of us were rooting for us to do the unthinkable, to the unwelcome point of penalties. We had the bonus of seeing our team at Wembley and then, as you say, we move on to next season with optimism.

It feels shit we missed out on the biggest prize in football on penalties. But, if you believe in the process in what Robins is hoping to achieve here, it’s a bump in the road and an opportunity to kick on.

Unlike a lot of playoff finalists, we’re going to increasing our spend on players and hopefully that will allow us to build a deeper team able to compete. It may take 2-3 seasons to get there.

Sure, we may not be able to keep Vik and Hamer but we will be able to make significant profit and reinvest that transfer revenue.

I think we need to cut BSB some slack. It was yesterday when he posted and we all felt so low.

Agreed. We all deal with our emotions in different ways. My brother was sobbing and I didn’t think he was that bothered going into the game on Saturday.

Some people want someone to blame, some people feel like it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity missed and so on. We’ll be back because I believe in Robins to rebuild this squad to get us where we need to be.

This. It was so tense and pretty horrible, and has affected my mood for weeks! The limbs away at Boro are probably the best I have been involved in though, the release of pressure and unlikely circumstances of it were incredible, followed by increased tension until we got to the final whistle and then the great scenes after.

It was similar in League 2 playoffs. First leg was horrible, away at Notts County was incredible because we won so comprehensively, and the first half Vs Exeter was tense until we went 1 up. Overall, the Playoffs are not enjoyable at all, but have the potential to bring the best moments of joy...high risk high reward, emotionally

If the disappointment manifests itself in toxic ways I.e. abuse of players, violence and/or anti-social behaviour. Then sure, I agree. If people get a bit upset/angry and need a vent, let them.

Well he offered plenty of abuse to Dabo nonsense about being done for football for months Luton have stolen our place. The other idiot reminded me of those Indian cricket fans who used to burn effigies of players such was his bilge against Dabo.

You have the opportunities to celebrate success and just accept some disappointment- I understand young children crying and thinking it’s devastating but not fully grown adults

Yeah, it was horrible. Horrible nerves throughout. Like a last game of the season relegation decider that just goes on and on. I'm sure it's detrimental to health, and judging by the reactions of a handful of posters on here it can have a massive effect on your emotional wellbeing. I'm gutted, but some of the reactions are so extreme I feel sorry for them if they feel that way.
