So how do we know that's down to Robins?
Oh yeah, he said something in the local media so it must be true. The same media King made his comments in that we should just ignore!!

I think the truth is a bit more nuanced than on Robin, not on Robins but people seem to want to blame every bit of adversity on a man who rebuilt the club. It's weird.

The 3 of them together put this squad together. MR with him pushing for Binks, Kitching, Asante and Rudoni, the scouting team for the other recommendations, even Viveash for Palmer, Collins and Dasilva you could argue. King with the cherry on top prioritising the ability to make a profit over everything else.

It doesn't go this badly wrong for it to just be one person's fault.

I'm happy to debate it either way, include or exclude last season.
But if you include the end of last season then Robins bad run started after we best Leeds, so 6 games.
Add that on to the 14 we got this season that's 20 games, are the people who were calling for Robins going to start calling for Lampard after 20 games if it carries on in this vein?

I know I won't, but I'm just hilighting the hypocrisy

If that form (0.8 PPG) continues under Lampard for the 24 remaining games of this season then we'll finish with about 44 points and will likely be relegated. So yes, I'd expect people to call for Lampard to go under that scenario.

I've changed my mind on a few things through this saga and apportioned blame on Robins for stuff I previously exonerated him for but it will take a lot to convince me that stripping the squad if experience is on him.

His comments when Binks and Kitching were signed were that both were there to provide leadership, 'maturity beyond their years', talented on the ball etc etc. Qualities that plainly put neither have shown during their time here.

He takes about 30-40% of the responsibility for assembling this group.

I don't know if that's 100% accurate but I think it's a fair assessment.
I just hope King allows Lampard to bring in some experience.

Lampard has his managerial career on the line here, I can see him at least making the argument. As for King, it depends on how much he stands to lose if things really went downhill from here.

I just think that some of the biggest piss takers in the squad need bombing out and replacing with consistent performers. If Collins really is starting on Thursday though, well, I don't know what to say.

The problem is we're not going to make much of a profit on anyone, Sheaf we should make a bit, but not as much as we would of last summer.

I'm not sure how that will play out with King and whether he'll be happy to bomb people out.

My first step would be to get some old heads in and see if they can steady the ship and help bring about a bit of consistency.

The fact remains from last summer's overhaul to now the squad has only sustained one period of decent form in the space of 1.5 seasons. Whatever Lampard said, there is no leadership at all out there to help when the tide is turning or to guide the more inexperienced players through.

We have assembled a group of technically talented players who shit the bed at the drop of a hat. What Chris Wilder said was so true-he can count on an acceptable minimum from his players every week, the Coventry manager whoever it is cannot.

I can't find my post but I'd worked out we have had one good 4.5 month spell in the league in something like 15-16 months of football.

Edit: found my post.

Aug 2023 - poor
Sep 2023 - poor
Oct 2023 - poor
Nov 2023 (first half) - poor
Nov 2023 (second half) - good form
Dec 2023 - good form
Jan 2024 - good form
Feb 2024 - good form
Mar 2024 - good form
Apr 2024 - poor
May 2024 - poor
Summer
Aug 2024 - poor
Sep 2024 - poor
Oct 2024 - poor
Nov 2024 - poor
Dec 2024 - poor

That good form did coincide with O'Hare coming back.

20 games is almost half a season. To your final question I rather suspect that your hypocrisy comment would prove to be bollocks if Lampard's record over that period is identically bad compared to that of Robins .

People will be calling for Lampard to go if the next 10 games go badly, let alone 20.

I don't but it's all hypothetical until it happens.
We've had people gunning for Robins for a long time.
And we've been down the changing managers after half a season route, it didn't prove very fruitful.

Hopefully most will recognise the rebuild job Lampard has. He’s inherited some talented forwards, a couple of half decent midfielders, no leaders, no experience and some shocking defensive options. I detest loans but he’s going to need at least 2 to limp through to summer.

Disagree. I think Saturday’s performance was a new low. The only comparable game under Robins this season was the 3-0 defeat to Leeds but then you have to consider that Leeds are possibly the best team in the league while Portsmouth are one of the worst.
There were many mediocre performances this season but in general those games ended in a draw or losing by a goal. We also had some cracking performances, Oxford, Spurs, Watford, Luton and Middlesbrough being cases in point.

Would Robins have played Collins on Saturday? Doubtful, and by common consent it was Collins who was the architect of our downfall.

Robins has proved time and time again that he has the ability to turn things around. I think he would have done the same again this season. Making out that performances like Saturday were standard for the season under Robins is just factually wrong.

I accept he has gone. I want us to succeed under Lampard. But there’s no need to wrongly rewrite history.

Just actually read the conversation thread properly , consider the context and don't introduce variables not specific to the actual point being debated

Think it’s going to take a bit longer than the summer in all fairness. If Lampard gets some of his own targets in who says they will hit the ground running? Every signing is a gamble as well we all know.

There is only QPR who’ve conceded more goals at home.

Robins teams rarely looked so fallible until this season - it’s always been built on a defence and strong covering midfield

His old guard have all but gone. Most games have been dire and the only games we’ve played well in is when Wright was on his game. Something the new manager is having to deal with until he returns.

The season as a whole we finished 9th and got to a cup semi with what increasingly looks like a bunch of L1 players.

Yes, because for one third of the season we were on 2 points a game or slightly better. The cup run aside from Wolves was pretty generous too.

The point is that collectively these players are much less than the sum of their parts and it appears the good form last season was the exception to the rule.

He's stated facts.
You may think that wasn't good enough, but that's what we achieved last season.
Or are you go and try and argue we didnt?

You yourself have questioned whether or not the one decent bit of form was just a flash in the pan and the truth is that we just don't have a good team.

The evidence supporting that view grows by the week up to the point where now half the season we have been playing poorly yet most still seem unconcerned by a relegation battle.

But We finished 9th and got to an FA cup semi final.
That's all he said, and it's indisputable.
