Has a bloody good chance of coming back down again with a thump.

Just took a look at the Prem table after yesterday's results. And with almost a third of their season gone, all of the bottom 6 are teams that have been promoted from the Champ in the last 2 seasons. Even the hotly tipped (and apparently financially successful) Burnley are down there.

Not intending this to poke fun at those teams that went up but it just goes to show that the gap between the Champ and the Prem is still significantly wide. And unless we want to pay a fleeting visit a la Luton/Sheff Utd for the cash, we may just have to accept that this season (and maybe even the next two) is a rebuilding one as we are a massive step away from the Playoffs or any type of assault on the top flight. I dread to think how we'd do if we went up with this team

We'd have done much the same but I can think of 200 million reasons why I wouldn't have given a shite.

Imagine the stability those clubs will now have for the next decade. Luton in particular have played a blinder. New stadium on the horizon no stupid wages to cover next year. They will be in such a healthy state going forward.

Which is why I said that if we were promoted in the near future, we'd have to do a Luton and go for the cashgrab. Luton are definitely the exception. All the other 5 have spent and overspent to hope for survival. Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth at least have the parachute payments now if they were to be relegated (Parachute available after 2 seasons in the Prem ?).

Think I wouldn’t have minded being beaten every week in the prem as the quality is so much higher than when we were last there, plus would love to see some of the top players at the CBS (parachute payment an added bonus) Surely got to be better than mid table mediocrity in the Championship

If we had beaten Luton and were now 18th in the premier league, would Robbins still be here?

We're 20th in the Championship and there's no questions over him leaving. He'd have stayed even if we had been relegated back down immediately.

Fair point, It's a bit of a different situation though. If we'd gone up then Vic and Gus would maybe still be here wheras we've had to do a rebuilding job.

I'm surprised that the managers of teams that have gone up don't seem to be under undue public pressure (apart from Heckingbottom possibly).

A relegation battle in the Premier League or the Championship - what a hard choice.

Not at all surprised Luton are making the best go of it out the 3 teams though

Agree. I think whatever manager you have first season up, it's always a struggle and a bit of luck on the way needed to stay up. The step up is outrageous.

They have a proper team spirit. That can go a long way when fighting at the bottom. Burnley have bought to many players without the right attitude.

SU got a point against 10 men, I would have happily gone up, not spent silly money, expected to come back down but in a much better financial situation and no doubt with a stronger squad.

Was not to be.

There is a big chunk of good fortune in this, last year a lot of thing went right, if you think of it logically we should not have been at Wembley.

This year it feels the opposite for whatever reason, we seem to be playing beneath ourselves.

We did get lucky with Vik and Hamer, how often does that happen?

Although I don't particularly like any of the 3, I hope one I hope one of them stays up as I don't think its good for football in general for the status quo to constantly remain intact. Likewise I don't want to see Leicester, Leeds and Southampton ending the season as the promoted teams.
