Seen a lot of chatter about potential targets. Feel thats pretty pointless being as we won't know anything, its how robins does his business.

However it did get me thinking. Bearing in kind we keep the squad together, what do we feel we need to stay up?

Personally for me

Stronger reserve GK
Centre Half
LWB
CM
AM
2 xST

7 Minimum for me. Thats with no one else going. Of course loan out your drysdales eccles etc

Posted on another thread:

CB x 1
LB/LWB x 2
RB/RWB x 1
CM x 2
CAM x 1
RW x 1
LW x 1
ST x 1

10 players needed.

1. A top striker

2. Walsh or a ball playing replacement

3. a left back/wing back

I’m happy to give the centre halves a go at this level, we need cover everywhere I think kelly will struggle

Depending who goes out:
OHare poss, no chance of Walsh plus
LB
Kelly replacement
Champ quality target man

I'd like more but have to be realistic.

Bare minimum DM to replace Walsh.

Next tier LWB AM

Ideally CB another DM ST another AM

(assuming 3421 again)

Depends on our budget and injuries though. Long term the entire squad probably needs replacing bar one or two.

It's a difficult question to answer this year because it all depends on the system they choose to play. We're light in the winger department, but if they stick with the box midfield then that doesn't matter.

I expect they'll stick with the 3-4-2-1 as it was so effective last season, so will be interesting to see how someone like Jodi Jones can fit into that.

I have so much faith in Robbins though, sure he'll continue making us better next season.

I have a weird felling SISU are gonna supprise us, could see them investing. Cementing in the Champ is crucial to any future plans. Being a hedge fund there is scope to gamble a bit

I'd say we need a:

2 strikers (1 experienced 1 loan)
O'hare + 1 probably 2 more holding mids
Happyish with defence, I like Mason but we need a Lwb and cover for Dado at Rwb

Biggest priority is a return to the RICOH. That will boost the resources we can operate with in the transfer market.

I think we will sign about 10-12 players. Not all of which being for the 1st team. Key priorities for this transfer market:
- 1 CB
- 1 LWB
- 1 CM
- 1 CAM
- 1 ST

5 players we need to sign for the first team at a bear minimum. I wouldn’t put it past us signing a winger to offer something different. If not, hopefully, Jobello and/or Jones will feel like new signings and offer something new off the bench.

Could depend on how the pandemic affects their budget and that of football teams needing to sell players to balance books.

If they get someone 'cheap' they may be willing to fund a bigger shortfall for a year as their value will go up when things get back to 'normal' and could be sold on for future years budgets (as I don't think they'd be expecting to be able to bring in players likely to go for promotion).

Personally I don't think they'll be willing to spend that much

No, only if the deal is right. But we need to play in Coventry in one way or another if we need to progress as a football club

I'd be concerned about the state of the pitch if we go back to the ricoh. Goes without saying that the club needs to be back in Cov, but we definitely benefited from not playing half our matches on a cabbage patch last season.

LWB - McCallum replacement
DCM - Walsh replacement (Hamer?)
ACM - O'Hare replacement (or just O'hare himself!)

I think they're the only absolute guaranteed signings as replacing what we've lost. The rest is just building depth/quality.

GK i think we are ok even if a weaker backup
Defensively - maybe another CB, i think Pask can cover RB and mason LB?
Midfield - hopefully got Jobello and Jones to come back and hopefully they can step up to offer options, feel Kelly needs cover as well
Striker - difficult one, think we could do with one more but 2 would be nice with more options, although keeping Baka suggests we wont be signing more than one

We shall see

How many do you reckon we need?

1 Main thread with serious well thought out answers

2 decoy threads with comedy replies only

That’ll do at worst, ideally need one for confirmed signings and where they’ll play but individual threads can do a job there in a pinch. I’d like to see a thread about youth players coming up to, cheap to gamble on and might pay off long term.

We need much more than two to compete at this level. Even this thread wouldn't get into an average Championship forum.
