-------------Murphy-------------
Clarke---Keogh---Wood---Hussey
------------Jennings--------------
Fleck-------------------------Sheff
-------------Baker----------------
-----Elliott---------Cody----------

Subs

Dunn
Cameron
Kilbane
Deegan
Thomas
RoD
Bell

I believe we would be one decent striker away from making a decent effort of it.

Even if we had to lose Willis (who wouldnt even get into the above match day squad) to have this squad, it has to be worth it ?

We would also have the kids waiting for their chance on the bench, and Christie to comeback into the reckoning as well.

Best 11 in the league? very attacking also with the 2 holding players, who can play the ball around nicely , set up attacks, not a huge amount of pace but better than last season on the right especially, if elliot and cody can have a good pre season and score a few , who knows what could happen

I really don't think Sheff could play that left centre midfield role in the diamond, he hasn't got the discipline to cover the spaces, he can't defend and support the fullback when he's outwide.

Also feel the midfield would be still too lightweight when we need to dig in and grind out a result.

He said in his first interview that he can play , striker, or out wide left or right , and also said will play wherever Andy put's him, he genuinely seems like he wants to work his socks off for us , like to hear that.

I've always been a fan of the the 4-2-3-1 formation, so my team would be:

.................Murphy.................
Clarke...Keogh...Wood...Hussey
..........Jennings...Kilbane..........
Baker..........Fleck.........McSheffrey
...............McDonald..................

that for me would give us top 6 if it could stay fit but we also need a bit of strength in depth

That 4-2-3-1 looks good. Having the attacking midfielder feeding balls for Cody to run onto like many of his goals in L2

The team looks half decent as it stands, as has been mentioned previously it is still a little lightweight.

I'd feel much more comfortable having a 'unit' up front in the mould of Platt, Adebola, or (God forbid) Kevin Kyle, and similarly at centre-half/holding midfield just to give the team a bit more balance.

4-2-3-1 with baker, fleck and mcsheff as the 3 looks tasty. Baker should boss that role if he plays anything like he played at the end of his Stockport days and the start when playing for us, mcsheff should at the very least get 10 in that position and we'll have to see how fleck fairs in league 1

The thing is about these fantasy teams you can only play your strongest 11 probably less than 15 times across a season as you always have 3/4 injuries at any one time and combine with that with loss of form of players we have nobody then to replace them with. Lets say 3 players to these starting 11 are injured, do the team again and see what options you have left on the bench to change and influence the game through substitutions.

Of course you're right CCFC. But atm I still feel positive about us getting that cover; after all, we said we needed a CM to cover the loss of Clingan and, to a lesser extent Bigi and sure enough we have one who seems very good on trial. It looks like theres more to come - albeit 1 or 2 more to leave yet.

That is one powderpuff midfield....having watched the Sheff Utd/Stevenage ties that midfield would get bullied off the pitch even with the poodle...I mean pitbull in the side.

Yea but lets say ROD, Baker, Bell, Mcsheff, Deegan are all having stinkers of a game which isn't unlikely then we have no options on the bench. If those players are by there standards having good games then yes it isn't a terrible team.

We are not far off, if Jennings signs get 2 season long loans and one more free signing would be my aim

too many IFs for me mate

injuries plus bad form in replacements will mess anyone up,we dont have the money for 22 superstars, lets give these fringe players a chance,we have never played in league 1 with them before after all, cant write them all off

but i do agree a few loans would be fantastic

as for powder puff midfields, whilst i respect your point id like to see us outpass most l1 teams, other teams have managed it,lets see how we do

Murphy
Christie - had no first team experience at time
Keogh
Cranie
Wood
Hussey - got injured half way through game?
Bigi - had no first experience at time
Clingan
Sheffers
Juke
ROD - scored a goal

alot of those negatives are rectified after a season being blooded, would make a big difference imo

also 2nd game getting used to no marlon king, something that plagued us for a loooong time, this pre season should sort that out,if it dont thorn needs sacking

That wasn't the line up.
It was

Keogh

Bigi

McSheff
Bell
Juke
ROD

Yet again scapegoat Sammy implicated in a poor display... He was on international duty.
For the record he was not playing in most our most shocking displays last season... Forest (away), Donny (home), Southampton (away).

I doubt he meant it as a dig on Clingan

Was most likely a genuine mistake or inaccurate report he pulled it from

The "Workhorse" attribute always appears to be utilised as yet another central striker wandering all over the park chasing down opposition forwards and at the same time expected to be lurking in the penalty area waiting for that magic through ball,

It always seems to be the tactic by any of our previous managers plus AT also - we mustn't lose shape or else the goals will not be forthcoming from up front.

Yes agreed

Juke was always out wide and who was waiting to nod the cross in no one, when he should have been central

He still scored 9 in 25 playing that way. Our problem was more he didn't have a partner who chipped in. He scored more for us playing that way than he did as the main focal point at middlesborough.

...........................Murphy.............................
..........Keogh........Cameron..........Wood...........
Clarke........Jennings..........Kilbane..........Hussey
..................Fleck............McSheff..................
..........................McDonald...........................

If we needed to chase the game then the following attacking changes are still available:
Bell / Baker for Clarke.
Thomas on for Kilbane
Elliott on for Hussey - Mc Sheff switching to left wing back.

Defending a lead then:
Kilbane could go left wing back for Hussey and Deegan could come in.
Thomas could come in for Fleck or McSheff giving us 3 natural CM's to stiffle the attacking threat.

Benefits: Retains a bit of height, creates space on the wings and our 2 in the hole causes a decision for opposing team - are they picked up by centre mids or centre halves (most teams only play with 1 defensive cm). Other teams would possibly have to change their formation to play us possibly giving us an advantage?
