At school we used to say Chippo came in so Hadji had someone to talk to, was that true?!

Can anyone remember which one of them was taken out by Warren Barton, I think , during a game v Newcastle at Highfield Road ? Barton got sent off and we won 4-1 if I recall correctly . the gentleman Sir Bobby Robson had just taken over Newcastle.

It was Chippo. The game where Paul Williams scored from 75 yards and then shagged Gary Pendrey in celebration.

Goodness me , I do recall the best ever England international [Sir Carlton Palmer ] scoring that day and Shearer missing a few chances for the Geordies, but , shagging on the sidelines well i never :muted:

Who was it that said they saw Haji in Sainsbury's Leamington or Warwick and he opened a jar of mustard and stook his finger in it and licked it and put it back on the shelf!

Who was that player, i've forgotton him ( obviously) but he's not that forgettable.
Midfield, played early noughties, played in goal once when the keeper got sent off, was actually alright.

That's him.
And who was that bloke, midfielder, bald, we had him for a few games and helooked the business but just when we were about to sign him he went to wolve, or did he come from wolves.
It was the 90s.
Wish it was still the 90s.

Other way round, we signed Chippo first.
Getting both though was great.

Really? I thought it was a really sad spectacle to see tbh. Was miles off the pace (in a testimonial) and I was hardly surprised when Glenda left him out of the WC'98 squad abt 10 days later.

This I think was the game when Dion became the "invisible man" was off the pitchBehind the goal,
keeper rolls ball out having a look up the pitch and Dion promptly enters pitch and scores.

"We had a great midfield, that year...we had Hadji, we had Chippo, we had McAllister and Froggatt and...uh, Carlton Palmer...*cough*"

I was talking to a Barnsley fan a few years back, and I mentioned our midfield in 99-00 to him in the above manner. I got to Palmer and he spat his Tango out in merriment. Twat.

Dion was at Villa in '99-'00. ;-) The invisible man incident was '97-'98 I think.

I remember that goal really well. Wasn't the keeper Shay Given? The ref was asked later why he had allowed the goal and he said that as Dion had only left the pitch through momentum (by running too far) and he returned to the field of play straightaway, then he was deemed to still be in play, therefore allowing the goal. See it here...........

Yeah I know the feeling, I had to double check before I posted. Indeed, it was the aforementioned 4-1 win, and that free kick by Hadji in the dying moments to make it 4-1 was delicious. If anything, I'd go as far as to say that Chippo's technique and vision was greater than Hadji's, however the latter had that 'je nais sais qua' factor.

Really understated player, in my opinion. Had vision, patience and a great long-range pass with that left foot. And Bobby Gould didn't want to pay a measly £50-75k for him...
