Anyone else excited about the upcoming show on Sky Atlantic?

I love the film, which is actually on tonight if anyone is interested.

Bit of controversy with the TV show because I believe they made all the extras sign contracts stating that they must be prepared for nudity and sexual scenes.

Apparently the wording in the contracts is agreement to 'aggressive sexual behaviour '

I'm pretty sure if it was Dan it would also have to include 'anal' and 'soapy tit wanks.'

Seems to be a lot of hype about it and normally with HBO thats a good thing so I'm looking forward to it, will wait till there is a whole season to watch before I start.

Just got going on The Americans, I'm liking that

The original was written by Michael Crichton, who also wrote Jurassic Park.

Basically a theme park inhabited by robots, almost impossible to tell them apart from real humans. You go there and choose a world for your holiday, Ancient Rome, Mediaeval times, the wild west etc.

The robots are there for you every whim and desire.

There is a malfunction though and the robots start to break free of their control and command systems and start to attack the guests.

    Jurassic Park with Robots.

But yeah, liked the film, so any TV series would have a fair amount to live up to, but the premise is an obvious TV series if ever there is one.

The film was quite ahead of its time really, and anything with Yul Bryner in it is usually worth watching.

Yep, last night was the old movie from 1973. Slightly dated now, but still very good.

Am really looking forwards to it.

    Thoughts?

Really enjoying it. Developed a whole new level and dimension to the original.

    Promising start.

I didn't know this show was happening but I will be watching it now. I loved this film as a kid, as you said it is very much of it's time and does look a bit dated now but it was so different to anything about back then. Does the new series do it justice?

Just finished watching it and was very, very impressed. Definitely does it justice and has great style and a nice slant on the original.

Very, very good indeed. I still love the film, but it has dated. This new adaptation is beautifully played and acted and gives a real fresh feel to it all and is on a much more psychological level to the original.

    Highly recommended.

When did you see the original, Dutchman?

If it was many years after the movie came out I can understand that, as it has dated quite badly.

The 'robots' in this are so much more self aware aren't they.

This blew me away too. I absolutely loved it. Fantastic sets and a great look about it, well acted and crafted, intriguing premise and a great script too.

    Roll on episode 2.

Thought it was good, but some bits left me confused - what was the whole opening few scenes about? The bit where the guy gets off the train before spending the day with the blonde Host and then getting killed outside her house by that weird bloke? Flashback? Flashforward? Dream? I wish it were easier to distinguish between the robots and normal people as well. Spent half the episode guessing which was which.

Also is it just me that found the British guys acting very poor and a tad embarrassing?

The opening bit was how the theme park scenario plays out. They are both robots and they keep playing out the same scenario.

He comes to the theme park as his character, they meet 'again' and he dies tragically. It is then played out again and again, over and over and his 'cover' is given away in the actual episode later on when two female humans on the train comment at how real he looks.

I also love the fact that you can't tell the difference between the robots and the real people. That's kind of the whole point for me. A blurred reality and they have become so human they are starting to have real feelings and senses. They become more real with each passing day and with each update by their programmers.

It is was also a deliberate ploy to make you as a viewer believe that the guy on the train was a human visitor to the park and the girl, a robot.

Then when you see that he is a robot too it then makes you understand just how 'real' the robots can be.

Should I maybe put all this in a spoiler?

Anyway, it all made perfect sense to me. :) [/Spoiler ]

OK, who was the guy in black then? Same guy who cuts the top of the Indian blokes head - is he a robot or human?

It's an interesting concept don't get me wrong, perhaps I'm just a bit slow or because I've never seen the film I'm finding it a bit harder to take in.

It is different from the film though.

The idea is that the man in black is seemingly a visitor to the theme park, who has been coming for the past 30 years.

There is obviously something else going on though and in my opinion I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out down the line that he is actually a robot too. He's either a human wearing armour plating or it is following the film narrative that a guest can't kill or injure another guest (programmed into the guns that they only work on robots).

In the film the cowboy in black is most definitely a robot and never suggested to be otherwise. This tv series is planned to be as big as GOT and played over 5 seasons, so lots of twists yet, but as I say, my hunch is that down the line, though it now appears that the man in black is a human, he will in fact in time, prove to be a robot too.
