I don't think not being bothered about finishing second means aiming for it

I mean... I'd like to win the league too but the celebrations for getting promoted will be pretty much the same regardless of position. I think i'd cry, 1st, 2nd, play off winners, whatever.

That terrible away form has turned a romp to promotion into a scrap. With that added context, the emotion if we get over the line will be enormous regardless of how it's achieved.

For the sake of this fat guy's heart though, please not the playoffs.

Yet every time someone says they want to win the league you cunts all pop out the woodwork to bang on about it. I didn’t even say in that post I did, just that if we wanted to we should be beating teams Boro did. But oh no got to virtue signal about how you’d take second and you don’t care about winning the league. Fuck off the lot of you. Probably banged on about how you were happy our goal against Man Utd was ruled out cos we’d have lost to Man City anyway. Winning things is good actually.

I want us to win the league. I want us to have that trophy. That in the bag alone is a fantastic achievement for us this century. Creeping up to the Prem 2nd or 3rd wouldn’t be a disaster either but then I have mixed feelings about that ball bag of a division. Everything swayed to the top 6 super clubs, ticket prices prohibitive to many, ground full of wankers just attracted by the big clubs coming to town. Probably getting spanked most weeks like cannon fodder to the super rich….just not convinced it would be that much fun if you only go to watch Cov City like me 🩵

Would think the vast majority of home fans would be season ticket renewals.

No point worrying just yet.

Yes the majority of STs would be renewals but can you imagine the corporate side and the people trying to get match day tickets

I wouldn't be surprised if both Mason-Clark and Grimes miss out through injury. Mason-Clark seemed to be hobbling down the tunnel so possibly a flare up of foot injury. Grimes took a number of whacks on his foot including a nasty studded one. I thought he looked like he was really struggling for the final 10 minutes and was surprised he wasn't taken off.

FL may need to bring fresh legs into this one. Esse, BTA and Eccles or Torp could start this one. Emc, Rudoni and Grimes could be used off the bench. Important to pick up something from this game to go into Sheff Utd.

Has anyone ever said that finishing 2nd is creeping up to the Premier though?

I have never heard that. Finishing 6th and through the playoffs, yeah, but not for finishing second and runners up.

Second is guaranteed promotion and that's good enough for me .

Don't think anyone is saying let's not try and finish top. We should, of course. But 2nd would still be amazing and a fantastic achievement.

Wouldn't see it as falling short on any level.

Top 2 and I will be dancing geriatrically dancing round the front room.

Before we played Middlesbrough they had won their last 6 games including against the Blunts. We're so lucky to have a player like Onyeka who showed how good he is in the Prem until Brentford replaced him with big money signings.

I'm not saying it will be easy but I'm a lot more confident with Onyeka in the side.

Who is aiming for 2nd? We're aiming to win as many games as we can and that's all we can do. Middlesbrough won 6 on the bounce and could go on a run like that again. Thinking anything differently is being too confident. But saying you'd be happy with 2nd isn't giving up on 1st. Giving up on 1st would have been giving up on beating Middlesbrough last game.

It's a funny old game.

Before the season started I predicted we would finish 2nd to 4th because we were starting the season with a settled squad and side.and constantly got told how clueless I am by the normal suspects who thought 6th place at best. Now these same people go off on one because we're not winning every game.

We're still on nearly 2 points a game. Only Middlesbrough are close to us. We only have to play Hull once from those of us in the top 5 sides. All the rest have to play against 2 sides in the top 5. IIRC Ipswich have to play 3 of them. We've played most of our hardest games yet that's normally ignored. If Middlesbrough keep up the pressure it's going to be a great battle.

Ipswich have a hard run of games with not much time in between games. They could fall away as they have also been poor away from home. Just looked and they have Wrexham away next who beat them last game in the cup. They also still have to play Hull, Millwall and Middlesborough at home. They now have 7 games in 22 days. We all know about game congestions as our worst finish in the Championship followed our cup heroics against Manchester United.

Of course I would love us to go up as Championship champions, but if I was offered 2nd now I would snatch your hands off. Does anyone see it differently?

It's what they have done the last 2 games with 0-0 each time. This year so far 8 games 5 defeats 3 draws. Scored 4 goals. Would love to see them attack us as we would take them to the cleaners, but the teams near the bottom are as hard to beat as those near the top of the table. You only have to look back as far as Oxford as an example.

Those 16th and above are only 6 points away from the playoffs. The rest are in a relegation battle. Only Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester should be seen as the easier games. The good thing is that's the same for the chasing pack.

Us saying 2nd is acceptable isn't our players accepting 2nd. Of course they want to go up as champions of the Championship. Our last game against Middlesbrough showed how much it means to them.

That's the point many seem to be missing. The aim this season was to get Promotion although most couldn't see it happening. But because we totally exceed their expectations in the 1st half of the season anything but 1st is now seen as a disaster.

Lampard has been talking about this for a few months now. We were never going to be a Leeds or Burnley. It's a long, hard season. We've played all the teams we're up against in the top 5 twice except for Hull who are in 5th. There's two best sides, us and Middlesborough, have the easiest run ins to the season yet we can't dismiss those with something to play for.

Maybe, but another draw wouldn't be bad at all for them in reality

The games they have coming and really want to be targeting are those against the teams around them and are like six pointers

They have to play Charlton, Oxford and Blackburn and their last game of the season is against Sheff Weds, for which they would be unanimous favourites.

They are on 34 points right now. Win all those 4 and they would be on 46 and much closer to safety.

You only need to add a few draws to that and they would be clear, so I don't think they would see Saturday a must win to be honest. They have 14 games left

Win those 4 and draw 3 and they would be on 49 points. That would mean they could probably still afford to lose pretty much half the games of the 14 they have left.

Last season the 3rd from bottom finished on 49 points and the season before that, it was 50.

So anyway, I do think they may be a little cautious. Let's see. They may attack, they may not, but being so goal-shy at the moment doesn't exactly point to them attacking us and throwing caution to the wind.

I think they will try to be compact and set themselves up to be hard to beat. Scrap it out.

At no point am I suggesting aim for second, I’m simply saying finishing in the top 2 is the ultimate goal, the title would be a bonus.

The seasons of going to the hawthorns & usually coming away with nothing, is changing.
They are flirting with relegation & like when we were suffering relegation & league 1 & 2 seasons ago, let’s pile the pressure on them for a change .
Let’s have a party when we beat them & show our renewed class .

It is different. They have so many times been a better side when we have played them and we have been the underdogs.

This time, it's them that are struggling..

We have to fancy our chances. Just make sure we show zero complacency .

Calling people cunts and telling everyone to fuck off, that is perhaps an overreaction to people saying they would be happy to finish 2nd and get promoted. Why does it matter what other people want?

We have had a major wobble in our performances and results and I think most people are realistic that winning the league will be difficult. I don't care that much how we go up, although would prefer to avoid playoffs.

You tell me, I’m not the one that can’t let a fan on a fans forum say they want their team to win the league without responding Um ackshually we will still achieve the optimal financial outcome of Premier League football should we finish second
