They worked really hard and closed down space, but offered absolutely nothing in terms of threat whatsoever.

Seems like they were playing for the draw from the first whistle. Just three shots all game, Murphy with nothing to do and no corners the entire 90 mins.

Could understand it if they were desperate for points and at the wrong end of the league, but they are midtable.

Very, very disappointed with the way they set out their stall. It was almost non-football. So pleased we won and they got their just desserts.

Their manager did come out the other day and say this was a game they couldnt afford to LOSE... if that didnt tell us that they would set their stall out and try bore us to tears I dont know what does. Just glad we snuck it at the end.

They were strong and physical and kept their shape well but absolutely dreadful in their approach to try and not lose.

barnsley and peterbourough are my two sides that will go on free fall from now on. Brum will as well (long season for them) but they wont be anywhere near a dogfight.

Barnsley were the worst side i have seen at the Ricoh for quite a few seasons.They never attacked us, They couldnt pass the ball and they we shaky at the back. We wernt much better ourselves but we probably just edged it. If Barnsley play like that for the rest of the season then they will be in the relegation mix aswell.

Think we did them in the final third of the match ,even stevens to then ,Thorn made a telling sub in Bell ,who actually influenced things when he got on ,they insulted us when they played against Brum in the week ,Hill doing a Mick Mcarthy,leaving his midfielders out ,saving them for us ,Arrogant,was one of their more mature fans bantering one of ours going throu the tunnel under railway ,giving it out how shit we are ,how shit they were ,We're going down etc ,so could'nt resist reminding him they'll have to wait a 90th year to get that away win here.Otis goog call 1-0 i think ,should have been three Nimely wide when through ,Sheffers at the death how did did either miss.

Regardless of where we are in the league we've got a good recent home record and they came with game plan to get a draw. They played 1 upfront and packed the midfield, and when not in possession kept 10 men behind the ball. They worked hard and closed down. In their midfield 5 they had 1 holding player (tall no. 15) behind the other 4 in midfield. This meant for a lot of the time he could stand in front of platt when we hoofed it.

The biggest turning point IMO was when they brought Gray on and went 2 up top for the last 10-15 mins. That really opened the game up and we were then totally in control of the midfield.

As much as I hate supporting CCFC at times, I'd hate to support Barnsley. To go domewhere and play as poorly as them but still try and play for only one point? And I thought Thorn was negative; not half as negative as their manager was today, and he's an experienced manager!

Barnsley at home were excellent against us, but we were also poor that day.

I think the truth is that there really isn't much between most of the sides in this league and a little bit of quality that we now have with the loanees, is all that is often required to make a small difference count. We have been lucky to get in what we have and if we can keep them fit, then there is no reason we can't get on a bit of a run. It would be nice to get that away problem off our backs sooner rather than later but it shows us that sides in comfortable mid-table have nothing that we should be concerned about.

I didn't say they were poor, Astute. I said they were dreadful. And I quite clearly meant by that, that they had no intention whatsoever of making the game a proper contest or indeed of going out to try and win the game. They had 3 shots all game, Murphy had nothing to do for the 90 mins and they didn't even get a single corner.

You can't tell me our defence had to play well today. They just did what they needed to do. Usually Keogh is al over the place having to make last ditch tackles and diving in to save the day. Well there was just about none of that yesterday. Barnsley played one up front and packed the midfield and just tried to stop us winning.

Think your post misses the point completely. This has nothing to do with AT's tactics or the opposition being poor when we win, this is about a team with very negative intentions who spoiled the game for any neutral watching with their' not lose at any cost' tactics. They are midtable for god's sake and pretty much safe. Would have expected them to play with a lot more freedom!

They were dreadful. Strong, organised and hardworking, but bloody dreadful and they could have played for 8 hours and still wouldn't have scored.

I don't think there is much doubt in the quality of signings we have brought in the past but it's his tactics that are generally suspect. He got it right to abcertain point yesterday though although some urgency would be nice!

He didn't have to do anything tactically. Oddly in the last 2 home games the opposition managers have made it easy for us with baffling substitutions and tactical changes.

Don't wish to piss on Thorn's chips here at all, but would have to say all managers would surely have taken Baker off and put Bell on. I was calling for it at half-time Baker was that bad.

Didn't need a tactical genius to make that decision. Very grateful of course that AT did do the right thing though. Think the whole Ricoh could see that Baker was a total liability yesterday, overhitting every pass and every cross.

I think what he is saying, Rob, is that Barnsley went from one up front to two up front, therefore leaving space in the midfield, but still offered no threat going forwards.

This opened things up for us. Bad move by their manager. Before that we didn't look much like breaking them down at all.

It was made easy by the tactical change the opposition manager made which played into our hands. You may have a one topic agenda but still you need to keep things in perspective. Nil nil if he hadn't made that odd decision.

Same Otis. Baker was shocking and looked lazy. I was glad to hear he was very upset on the bench because at least it showed he cares - as his performance left me feeling he couldn't be arsed (as it did v Forest).

When he was subbed I think it's the first time I've heard a player jeered off AND his replacement jeered on!

What wonderful fans we have.
