If we don't beat already relegated Doncaster at home at the weekend AND beat Southampton away on the last day, who will probably be promoted by then, we're down. If Bristol City get more than one point from their games at home to nothing to play for Barnsley and away at nothing to play for Burnley, we're down. But if all those things do go our way we're safe, unless Portsmouth also win both of their remaining games (Derby at home, Forest away).

I have to say that at times earlier this season I was cheering CCFC to be relegated. I can't face another year of lower mid-table Championship. But I've been quite inspired by their recent revival and I really want them to do it now, or at least have something to play for on the last day against Southampton.

What a truly terrible time CCFC fans have had since we were relegated. Remember that guy with the sign saying 'WE'LL BE BACK'. I'd never have thought that eleven years later I'd care so little about the club.

But having said that it's quite a sad and shocking feeling realising that we really are now on the brink of going to the third tier for the first time in forty-eight years.

We cant beat Millwall at home yet your expecting a win away a Southampton? And a Bristol side getting draws against Birmingham and West Ham losing to Barnsley? Give me a break

Well I'm not 'expecting' it to happen, just saying it could happen. Bristol City aren't world-beaters really are they, could easily fail to beat Barnsley. And if we go to nothing to play for Southampton, knowing that a win could keep us up, with a huge Sky Blue following cheering them on, stupid to say we've got no chance at all of a win.

It'll take all summer to even slightly come to terms with league one. Dreading seeing the fixtures. Devastating result.

They are compared to us recently.

They took 6 points from Easter.

We took 1.

If they hadn't blown a 2-0 lead at Brum we would be officially dead and buried by now. As it is, CCFC has a faint pulse but its weak and fading fast....and will probably be gone by 5pm on Saturday.

Stick a fork in City, they're done.

The way Barnsley are playing at the moment, my Nan could beat them single handed. And she's been dead for 12 years!

We haven't been relegated yet!!

Have i missed something here? we still have the chance to avoid the drop, but all i have heard and read is talk like we are actually down.........now before someone and there are plenty on here who will, screams about being deluded or living in a fantasy world or even on drugs. The fact is we can still avoid the drop, chances are we will not, but there is still faint hope.. I personally do not wish to wallow in self pity all day or even give up hope until the points say we are down.

to say the OP is clueless is wrong

barnsley are now safe, their manager may challenge them to finish on a high, they might get a win or a draw, you never know

if we beat donny its down to 3pts with a bristol draw

they lose final day,we beat soton who are already2nd by then(if whu drop pts again) and we stay up if pompey drop a point somwhere

it is possible

not likely...but possible

1973, is that the year where teams only played 1 game and that sorted relegation out? Oh no, sorry my mistake it was the year Sunderland were crap and at the end of the season did not have enough points to stay up......get a grip Mackem prick....small village in Newcastle.

Mathmatically it's possible, that you can't argue about.

But can anyone on this board see us getting 6 points from the two remaining games (one of which is Southampton) on current form.

No? Neither can I, so let's stop all this soppy bollox talk about still being in the Championship next year and get our heads around life in the First Division. When I first started supporting CCFC, to be in the First Division was what it was all about. Oh, how times change.

We have been given countless opportunities to push ourselves clear or nearer safety and have promptly blown every single one. Be it a penalty last night, last minute penalty at home to Reading, Bristol constantly losing points, or countless other chances, we seem determined not to capitalise-and to add insult to injury we've been overtaken by cheating Pompey.

not read the other posts so apoligise if someone has already said this, but we are defo down now, there is no way bristol will lose to barnsley, and if that wasn't enough there is no way we will beat southamton, league 1 or division 3 here we come.....

The Greatest Great Escape Ever?

Now, I thought I would start off by saying that I agree with the majority in that we are almost definitely relegated now. But, the fact that we will be playing League 1 football next season still hasn't sunk in yet. So, what if Bristol lose or draw to Barnsley and we beat Donny, not an impossibility by any means. That would mean it would go down to the final day, with us having the 'nothing to lose' mentality at Southampton and Bristol being full of nerves against a Burnley side possibly needing a win to give them a chance of a play off place. It would undoubtedly be the escape to end all great escape's and whilst it is obviously massively unlikely, it isn't over till its over. Yeah, I've been dreaming.

You never know.

There's also Pompey in the equation as well, and have 2 very winnable fixtures left.

Of course we are down.

Ned was not saying we still will survive though was he? Christ how some of you fail to read a whole post!

The guy was merely analysing what has happened and mentioning there was still mathematically some hope, not that he believed it for one minute.

6 points form 2 games? With the way things are at the moment we would need at least 6 games to get 6 points.

We are down.

Even if Bristol were to lose on Saturday and us to win it still wouldn't be worth a single second of your time getting your hopes up.

Would say Pompey would benefit from Bristol losing their last two games rather than us anyway. If Bristol were to go down it would be us and Bristol to join Donny rather than us surivive you would have thought.

Or have people now conveniently forgotten that we are now 2nd from bottom not 3rd.

I'd say we have a 5% chance of staying up. If we can beat Donny (and let's face it, if we don't then we have no right to stay up anyway) and Bristol don't win then it'll go down to the last day - and we know that on the last day anything can happen!

The main thing is that we go into the Saints game with a chance. It will be like a funeral if we go there having already been confirmed as relegated.

If someone had said to me at the start of the season that we'll still have a chance (albeit not a great one) on the last day of the season, I'd probably have bitten their hand off!

But as I said, if we win and Bristol were to lose we will probably will still need TWO teams to fail on the last day for us to stay up (Pompey and Bristol).

Let's say that we win at the weekend, and the brizzle lose. What will be our feelings then? We can beat Southampton cause they won't be trying? The fans are very bi-polar....
IF the impossible does happen(above), the people who were saying that we didn't have a chance would be then saying that we do...
Meh, but we more than probably won't.....

But I repeat yet again, we are 2nd from bottom not 3rd. Pompey are above us.

We could beat Donny and Southampton and Bristol could lose both their games and we can still go down.

Pompey have Derby at home and then Forest away. They could quite conceivably win both of those games. That would send us down.

We need TWO teams to fail, not just Bristol.

Our fate has been decided over a season and although obviously these last games are hugely important it is our consistent lack of acheivement up until now that has left us in the position we are in. Although this sounds like stating the obvious I think we must accept that results have proven that we aren´t good enough to maintain our status in the Championship. I only hope that now we really can start again like the phoenix from the ashes and not fade slowly away into obscurity
