He was with McNultys family...I assume as he gave the MOM to his brother that the kid here is his nephew

This thread, first class!!!

Yesterday bought so many memories back for me. Sure I was at the checkatrade but yesterday was different. It started with me going the shop to get some smokes at 9am at the local before we left. Had my scarf round my neck and an old boy, must of been in his 80’s stop me in the street and says “ are we going to do it’ I hope so, the wife can’t understand why I haven’t slept this week” after a brief chat with this man I’ve never met before, I could see the fight and passion in his eyes, I actually felt a little choked.

We made our way towards the M40 but first picking up and old school friend with her son who’s 13 that I’d never met. Pulling up outside the house I could see the sheer excitement in his face, it was like myself as an 11 year old in 87 all over again.

On the way down I thought this young excited lad is going to have the time of his life today and I’m going to make it special. iPhone in auxiliary, Go For It city, Dave Willets singing the sky blue song, the belters were all coming out and the car was singing loud and proud. You could see in the lads face he’d never experienced a big away day before.

Parked up the road by the Arch Pub, and the young polite well mannered lad quietly said to me, I’ve never seen Wembley way and his mother saying, don’t be so cheeky to him, they will want to go in a pub. Well, that was the plan but bollocks to it, “ young man, if you want to see Wembley way we are walking right down the middle of it” his eyes lit up ( obviously I then had to get cans from the off licence on the way).

I’ve never seen a kid smile so much walking down Wembley way, a kid I’d met 2 hours earlier and I’m genuinely on cloud 9 for him.

I ask him, would you like to go to the fanzone. This kid was like all christmases, birthdays had come at once. The day for me had became making it the day for him which I’d experienced over 30 years ago.

They mum and son made there way to the entrance they had tickets for and we arranged to meet up after the game.

Obviously it was hysteria in the car going home. The mother messaged me today, said he had the time of his life and loved his pre match Wembley area tour, now for me, that was the icing on the cake.

Started the day with an old city fan just as excited as the young lad that I know deep down with the little bit of input from me is going to be a day he will never forget.

That’s how to make a new fan. We should all strive to give at least one kid an experience like that. Reminds me of my 10 yr old self at a certain big match in 1967
