You expect it up North but being in Cov which is central, we don't get much really. I work outdoors and like all seasons, but do like the winter months. I've been hiking/walking in West Scotland, the Torridon Hills. We had 4 seasons in one day, and got attacked by midges. Other than that it was great !Had our first snow this winter up here in Central Scotland & most of it is still around as it hasn't got much above freezing all day. Even the council got it right and gritted the roads last night, problem is another couple of cold days and they'll have run out as they have been gritting even when the forecast hasn't been 0C and lower
The one good thing about the winter is no midges, they've got a real liking to my English blood yet ignore my Scottish wife!! We don't get that bad a winter, just get snow a couple of times a year but it is considerably colder than the tropical midlandsYou expect it up North but being in Cov which is central, we don't get much really. About midges. I went hiking with my then young son,and a guide was explaining to us beware of these biting insects, as we had never heard of them. The Scotch guide added that they only bite English people. He winked at me but my lad said " That's out of order."The one good thing about the winter is no midges, they've got a real liking to my English blood yet ignore my Scottish wife!! I was expecting it to be wintry today as the forecast was cold with a drop in temperature. It was mild and sunny ! Even had a glass of pop off a customer instead of tea. I reckon they make it up as they go along. It reminds me of a Spike Milligan sketch when Spike as a newsreader says " Right now let's take a look at today's weather." And he just opens a window and looks out. And that's it ! Nice one Spike.
It is cold this morning as they predicted. I remember as a kid going to Highfield Road helping other fans clear snow off the pitch, to get the game on. Jimmy Hill calling us heroes, can't imagine SISU or Fisher saying that to us if we had to do similar today !Earlier this week it was sunny and 15c on the south coast. -1 this morning, first proper cold morning of the year.
Am I going to be struggling with midges in Skye early June?!?The one good thing about the winter is no midges, they've got a real liking to my English blood yet ignore my Scottish wife!! At least it's a weather story about Coventry for once. Fed up with them telling me what the weather's going to be like in Scotland and Yorkshire!!It's snowing in Coventry according to the Telegraph:
Snow falls in Coventry and Warwickshire as temperatures dip - updates
I just got back from skiing myself!
June July August worse months for midges in Scotland. Or was that midgets ?Am I going to be struggling with midges in Skye early June?!?
I've got some of this, just in caseA £2.25 moisturiser that doubles up as an insect repellent is the Royal Marines' secret weapon
A light flurry and the country comes to a stop. By the way I used your David Cassidy joke yesterday, went down well. Of course I'm going to use it again in the pub later too. You should copyright it !My daughter has said on Facebook this morning, that it was snowing in Cov (Coundon) at about 8am. Is this right?

Can be bad whenever it's wet and slightly humid, they only seem to disappear totally in winter. Same should be for ticks but I took one of our dog yesterday!!June July August worse months for midges in Scotland. Or was that midgets ?
On that hike in Scotland me and my lad covered our bodies in repellant. But I got bit bad even in my sleeping bag. They are nasty bastards, and the midges too !Skye is bad for midge, a good tip is if your bitten even if you've got some repellant on is to apply more repellant over the bite, don't scratch it ffs
There's nothing as scary and potentially as dangerous as some of the locals!!On that hike in Scotland me and my lad covered our bodies in repellant. But I got bit bad even in my sleeping bag. They are nasty bastards, and the midges too !
Patrick Moore used to do the same thing on "The Sky at Night". He'd end the program by saying to go outside and look up at the sky.<snip> It reminds me of a Spike Milligan sketch when Spike as a newsreader says " Right now let's take a look at today's weather."
