what’s with all the doom and gloom a few years ago we’d of given anything to be able to just be talking about football issues, it’s the first bad season we’ve had in years,100% we’ll add in January and lampard Will have the summer to put a team together that he wants, have another crack at it next season, robins had 7 years lampards been here 2 weeks, keep the faith, we’ve got through a lot worse

Well I was told it was King who got rid of Boddy and why.
I put it on here at the time, but not the reason, though it was nothing salacious

I agreed with Kings decision but I didn't appreciate at the time how close Robins and Boddy were, and that relationship, between the CEO and the manager is crucial, as we've seen at some very big clubs, when it's not good, it spells trouble.

I think as the people Robins had around him who helped him succeed, left one by one the writing was on the wall.
It was the end of era, and one it seems some people, mainly on here, are massively failing to appreciate, hopefully, one day they will.

But we move on, though I don't think we'll see the buzz or the togetherness the clubs had for the last 7 years again for a very long time.

Think there's too much entitlement now for that sort of siege mentality for a start.

I also find it strange how many of our fans struggle to understand that for a manager to do well generally he has a good network around him .. despite our off field issues robins boddy and viveash were a really good team and it worked wonders for us but as you say time to move on .. I agree I doubt we will be seeing such a magnificent period again any time soon

This is it. It was 20 odd years last time between decent periods. I’ll be retired before we see us successful again I reckon. Just hope we get a decent owner in a few years.

We're have a midtable season and are currently in the same calendar year as an FA Cup semi final. We've got bigger crowds than any in a generation.

Is it really the disaster you're making out?

It's not doom and gloom. But a great man once said:

'At a football club there's a holy trinity, the players, the manger and the supporters.
Directors dont come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques'

For a while we had it, it transcended results and it was glorious, but now its gone.
Oh well, onwards and upwards.

It’ll all be different after the win Saturday, come on admit it we were all looking at how far off the top 6 we were after beating milwall, and as awful as we’ve been it’s only 11 points, no way Lampards taken the job without getting some help in January, couple of loans in wright back and we,ll be ok

It's not about results, it was about a great time to be watching the club and be part of something special that's now over.
It was always going to end at some point it probably would have happened if we'd won the play off final.
Hopeful Lampard can create his own special era but as I said, probably too much entitlement now.

Well see. I’m just saying I get where Evo is coming from. I don’t have the belief I had under Robins. I hope Lampard does well, I just can’t see it being likely. And in hindsight the last 7/8 years were really unique in my city supporting experience. In over 30 years it’s probably that and the Entertainer years in the Prem that I’m proud to be a City fan through and thoroughly enjoyed.

We came from league 2 it was a brilliant few seasons and we nearly went all the way, like you say maybe weve become a bit entitled although ” this is the season “ coming from the club didn’t help, teams raise their game against us, we’re one of the big teams to beat now, maybe players can’t handle it, we were better when we were just going along under the radar, not totally writing this season off, 26 games and some good fixtures over Xmas, we’ll get better, Lampard knows what we need to do just hope he gets the players to do it

What would you have done differently to Doug post Wembley 2023?

1) Sack Dean Austin and march him out of the sky blues lodge. When we lost the PO Final it was inevitable that Gyokeres and Hamer went. You need a far higher quality Head of Recruitment to help advise how to spend the £40M consolation prize in their transfer fees, than the failed Farnborough Town and Northampton Manager, having their first go at a role in recruitment. This would have prevented the huge wasted fees on poor 25 year olds that look bad singings on free transfers nevermind for £3-5M.

Collate all of Austin’s recommendations and block the future HOR from signing them. If Austin was looking at them, they must be shit.

2) Plan. Admit defeat on Hamer sooner and get a replacement in for pre-season. Letting him go after the season had started with no replacement was poor planning yet again.

3) Replace Dennis Lawrence immediately if he cannot be persuaded to stay. With big investment in the playing staff, make sure the coaching quality is there to push the talent. Go after any MR/AV recommendations.

4) Get to the root issue between MR and AV. Instigate and invest in mediation by a professional. If this can’t be resolved, respect that and profile AV role and strengths and look for that with final manager sign off/give the manager the chance to appoint his own assistant. The winning formula has been proven over the last 7.5 years, it needs my support not disruption.

5) Don’t recruit anyone from a non football background or from swimming.

6) Don’t make the PL pledges for the sake of a marketing campaign. Pledges are for failing governments. Yes it’s the goal internally but we don’t need additional pressure from expectant fans when we have lost the league’s best 2 players and have a whole new squad to gel. You can increase prices on the back of investment into the playing squad and development of the clubs

7) Don’t marginalise disabled supporters and interfere with carer’s ticket. Yes us fans are customers but we are repeat customers and have a lifetime value.

8) Get sponsorships signed more than 3 weeks before the season is due to start to maximise kit sales. Don’t stick my brother’s business on the front of the shirt when I can’t get the money I want for sponsorship, shows nepotism in thinking fairly early doors.

9) Don’t scoff like a spoilt toff brat in interviews.

10) Block any communications to and from Barnsley FC. Fire anyone that discusses Barnsley’s defenders.

But what is this serious damage?

Since King came in the system we have used for bringing in players has changed. This is now the second season we have started without a big enough squad/all positions covered. The blame then gets put onto the manager.

I really hope that bringing in Lampard took so long because he wanted some assurances on this matter. If Robins got the sack for not being able to get results with this squad how long will Lampard be given?

Robins nearly always did well in the transfer market. Who is it that has wasted the money from the Gyokeres and Hamer fees? It is OK saying Robins had the choice each time from a few names but that's different from chasing the actual players he wanted. Robins played at the top. Lampard played at the top. I would prefer their experience than the system we now use.

Nobody is using the word disaster yet unless it's someone trying to make a point.

Are you old enough to remember our top flight years? If so you will remember how quickly our fall to the bottom division happened. Everything has changed since King took over. We're on a downwards trajectory. It won't take a lot to put us in the right direction again but it also won't take much to make things worse.

When King took over he admitted he doesn't know much about football. His actions so far have shown it to be true. We need to get back to experienced football people running our football club.

King praises how fit our players are and how well our fitness coach is doing. Lampard comes in and says we need to work on our fitness. Who do we believe?

Yeah this is my issue. Austin needs to go. He’s spunked £40m on garbage that’s not worth a quarter of that. Robert’s I hear good things about but also stories from within that she basically runs the place and frankly I don’t get why essentially a fitness coach is so high up in the organisation, not to mention that performances have nosedived in every aspect since she took over.

We’re certainly a bigger scalp than three years ago. Im not sure how long Lampard being manager matters. We’ve also spent a lot of money for a non parachute club which puts a target on your back. I’m not sure how you can’t say we’re bigger than 3-4 years ago in terms of profile.

It was said that “we’re one of the big teams to beat”, which was different to what you just a claimed I was saying.

My point is that half the league could claim to be as big as us at this point, especially as we’ve been out of the top flight for over 20 years.

I think we are. Outside of the parachute clubs it’s maybe Sunderland and then who? In terms of crowd, expectation and general media attention. I think people want to beat Plymouth a bit more because of Rooney too. Just something about getting one over on a name.

Some absolute belters in there. Blaming Doug for people falling out or blaming him for Hamer moving for a massive fee.

Sounds like he's as bad as our previous owners!

All owners make pledges. It's advertising and it's worked well because we are averaging 26,000 fans a week. The whole PL package is hilarious because not once did anyone promise promotion with it. We are aligned with most other clubs with carer/Senior Citizen tickets.

Sponsorship is another funny one. You can't win. Would you prefer Betfred on the front?
