Midfielder Kyel Reid is keen to propel his new club up the table, starting when the Sky Blues entertain league newcomers Wimbledon tomorrow evening.

Fresh from his first goal for the club, Reid was disappointed his side couldn’t take any points away from Gillingham at the weekend, but remains quietly optimistic about the Sky Blues' ability to end the current slump.

AFC Wimbledon come into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury, while Reid is the latest player to cite the lack of City goals as their ultimate downfall so far this term. He said: “It’s been a tough start for us all but there have been encouraging signs.

“We need to keep working hard and plugging away. If we do that the first win won’t be too far away. I believe once we do we can build some momentum and that can propel you up the league.

“If you can string two or three victories together you soon move up the table and we know we are capable of doing just that. Hopefully that can start tomorrow night against AFC Wimbledon.”

Reid opened his account for the Sky Blues against Gillingham - with an excellent half-volleyed finish - but the disappointing result took the gloss off what was otherwise a fine performance from the 28-year old.

“It’s always nice to perform well and scores goals. I need to add more goals to my game so it was good to see that one hit the back of the net.

“However, the main thing was the result at the end. It doesn’t matter who scored or how they did it, if your team comes out on the losing side you all feel dejected and want to put things right the next game.”

He added: “From our point of view they were strange goals to concede, goals we wouldn’t usually be susceptible to, so it was disappointing we didn’t take anything from the game when the goals were definitely avoidable.”
