SP said before Seabourne left that we need another CB, surely now we need another 2?
We have only 3 senior CBs at the club, any injuries and we are in trouble.

Perhaps he already anticipated Seabournes departure?

But I agree we need another one. Don't think it will be 3-5-2 all the time and think we will have plenty of 4-4-2.

I would like to see a CB and a DM/CB come in.

Well we could change formation back to 4-4-2 so only 2 cb and also I imagine Jordan Clarke would fill in and then put Arron Phillips at rb.

Also sp probably knew seabourne was off a while ago as these things don't happen over night so he has probably always been looking for a cb ever since seabourne wanted out a good few weeks ago now.

As you can see there are a lot of options.

I think people under estimate Webster. Yes he lacks pace and may not be the most vocal, but signs that he does organise the defence.

I think Reda will bolster a physical presence only Webster offered last year, so confident things will improve. Also Webster seems to have returned leaner and sharper.

As with all youthful players, you look for them to step up and improve. I think we have enough for a third man.

What we need is someone who can drop off and read the game and can steal a yard, whether that is through pace or just a good head. As before, I would look for a DM/CB utility and in that order of expertise, allowing for our limited resources.

Even if he knew Seaborne was going... With one new CB in that'll be four with 3 of those playing week in week out all season.
Not eenough even with cover from Clarke. Unless he does switch to 442 of course.

is it only me, but after maybe our best defensive display in years, why do i feel its wrong to be asking if we need more CB'S ?

I remember years ago, Dion Dublin - a recognised striker - was asked to play in defence for a few games. He was brilliant in that role and clearly enjoyed it. Isn't it feasible that players at the club are, shall we say, multi-talented in positional play? I'm sure players these days are no different. I remember when I used to play, I was a goalie but if the team was short of outfielders then I would play in most positions (albiet on the right!). We would use the No2 goalie to cover for me. Just my way of thinking, like.

In the last World Cup didn't Brazil play with some forwards in defence against Germany or have I got that wrong? ;-)

Jake finch did a good job for us on all accounts the other nite. Maybe sp believes adding 1 defender to the squad and using the youth players in drastic circumstances will suffice. I would agree with that, and a defender with speed is what I would opt for.

Very strong words my friend! A clean sheet was nice but we are far from the finished article! Maybe the first time in months we haven't gifted out opponents a goal, but surely this is standard?!

@ Houchens Head..............You're right about Dublin, but he actually started his career as Centre back with Norwich.

Not sure if he made a first team game, but was signed on Pro-forms as a Centre Half. Cambridge very quickly turned him into a Centre forward.

Getting back to the OP. Imho there should be cover in every position. Also 3 utility players that can play in any position making 25 in total. What size squad do we have atm?

3 players that can play in goal, midfield and upfront. It ain't a 5-a-side team.

Instead of trying to take the piss, why not make reasonable postings. You well know what I was saying about utility players, but try to turn it into a take the piss out of SBK forum...again!....FYI David James and Les Sealy have played in other positions than Goal keepers.

I think our squad is around 21 players now including the striker signing today, that's everyone with a squad number so doesn't include Baker or Barton

We need 1 more CB. We need 2 Strikers, 1 big target and 1 whippett and I would personally bring Baker back in as a squad member to cover injuries.
