We can't send out the kids and experiment ... supposing we do and lose, and Bristol also lose their last two games! Then what? Do you want to be left forever wondering if we should have played experience under pressure?

Errm, Just to let you know Pompey are more likely to win the last two than us and if they do we are down.

I don't think that'll happen tomorrow. They'll go for it tomorrow but the likelihood is Bristol will get the result they need. For any chance to stay up we need these results tomorrow:

Southampton to draw
West Ham to draw
Reading to win
Portsmouth to win (I'll explain this in a minute)
Bristol City to lose
Us to win

That's asking a hell of a lot. The top of the table results I've put so Southampton are automatically promoted tomorrow but can't be champions. I've put Pompey to win so that there's still a chance of both of us staying up and with Southampton having nothing to play for give us an easy ride and we hope Pompey and Bristol City lose on the final day. It's all very unlikely but it's the only situation I could see us having a chance.

Because we now have nothing left to play for. We need Bristol and Pompey to lose their last games whilst we win both of ours. It aint happening.

Just how many times I have to say this I don't know. We need BOTH Bristol AND Pompey to fail to survive.

People keep talking about us getting above Bristol. If Pompey win their last two games we are down no matter what happens to Bristol!!! Pompey are above us in the table with a much, much superior goal difference.

2 more points for Bristol we are down.

2 wins for Pompey we are down (no matter what happens to Bristol)

Yep, cos that's entirely possible isn't it.

We win the next 2 games 10-0 and you can my wife, my car, my house and my kids and all my life savings.

You're just being entirely ridiculous as we both know that would never, ever happen.

You are over complicating things, only results that matter are ours, Bristol and Portsmouth. Just because Southampton could still be fighting for 2nd or 1st place doesn't categorically mean we will not win.

for what its worth 2moro..bristol will win against barnsley, cos barnsley are already safe, bristol will want to secure there championship status in front of there own crowd....rightly so to...where as we need to beat doncaster, which if im honest..im not sure we will..im guessing we will..but if we are hearing that bristol is winning..and we are winning..and win..it would feel like a defeat anyway..also condeming us to league one...but if by some miracle..we win..and bristol lose..and portsmouth slip up to derby...do you really see us beating southampton..on the last day. nah.....we will go down tommorrow....

Seems extremely likely.

I can see Barnsley possibly getting a draw at Ashton Gate, but I can't see Bristol losing. Think Pompey will probably beat Derby too.

Problem is, there's nothing Southampton can do to help send Pompey down. If Pompey lose then they are down regardless. If they win, then we are down regardless (unless we win 14-0 or something ridiculous, given that we've probably scored less than 14 away goals all season). Either way it's academic as Barnsley are so shit that Bristol will beat them with ease tomorrow.

I'm not over-complicating it all. I'm not saying it's going to happen. What I've given is the perfect scenario for us and shown how unlikely it is to happen.

Bristol SHOULD get the result they need tomorrow, although if either us or Portsmouth are winning and the news filters through, they could get jittery.

Strange things happen in football all the time. Bristol beat a Forest side who battered them for 90 minutes. Chelsea did the same to Barca the other night. I realise Barnsley probably won't be completely pumped up for tomorrow, but that may give them some freedom. They might blood some talented youngsters just as some people are suggesting we do. Bristol could have a player sent off in the first few minutes for something silly (a la Derry and Young at Old Trafford).

We should go out tomorrow as if Bristol have already lost their match and a win keeps us in with a sniff. We should play our best side. Whatever that is!

To be fair Barnsley did draw at Blackpool. My mate's a Barnsley fan and says that they are absolutely dire at the moment, the players are mentally on the beach already. Reminds me of CCFC in recent years!

I think you are, you have stated that is the only scenario which will give us a chance. I couldn't give a monkeys about Reading, West Ham or Southamptons results tomorrow as they don't directly effect us.

If we can go into the final day with a chance anything can happen.

However like others I think Bristol will win tomorrow.

Anything can happen on the final day but surely it'd be much more likely to happen if Southampton had nothing to play for? I doubt we'd have got anything from Norwich last season had they still had something to fight for.

Saying that, Southampton could go into party mode if they had nothing to play for. Turn on the style and humiliate us, like.

God, this is dreadful isn't it?! Can someone just wake me up in May so I don't have to sit through this torturous death?

It's a theoretical perfect situation. If all those results were to happen that WOULD be the perfect outcome tomorrow. Yes, first and foremost you need the chance to get out of the relegation zone come the last game but if Southampton were in danger of slipping into the play-offs or had a chance to be champions that would severely affect the mindset in which they would set up to face us with. It's not over-complicating it, it's thinking ahead. Like I said though, it's more than likely none of those will happen.

Not predicting, merely down on my knees praying to GOD he pulls his finger out his arse for us for once and does the job because if this happens there will certainly have been higher forces at work!!
