We can stay up - Thorn (1 Viewer)

COVENTRY City manager Andy Thorn believes his team will stay up if they can make the most of their remaining four home games

We're going to give it a really good go. We have got four more games here and we're going to give it everything we've got and stick together as a team.

What about the away games?:confused: Don't they matter?

If we win all 4 home games that could possibly be enough.

He has seemed to change his tack here though. A couple of weeks ago he was talking about us having to pick up points away.

Maybe he now believes 4 home wins will do it.

That is if we do win ALL 4 home games though. It is putting a lot of pressure on.

What about trying to go for wins away from home as well?

Well, agree.

Can't see us winning all 4. only needs a dodgy penalty, wonder strike, silly mistake, width of a post, bad ref, or one poor performance to undo all that.

If we had been completely dominating teams at home and playing well while winning then I might tend to agree with him, but we haven't have we.

Anyway, we've drawn the last two. Tough ask to win the next 4.

Or maybe he's simply stating that our home form is quite good, and he feels we have a good chance of bagging a full-haul of points from those games. Which is a fair statement; and I guess one intended to motivate the players into doing so.

If he'd have made any reference to confidence with regards winning away, he knows that - given away form - such assertions wouldn't be taken seriously.

Being frank, anything the man says can be skewed to misrepresent his true ambition should you feel so inclined....

No, I don't see too much wrong in what he has said. Just thought he may have mentioned points on the road too.

But surely he could say "we really need to get some points away from home" to motivate the players when we play away instead of just concentrating on the home games?

Can we afford just to rely on our home games though? Especially with the games in hand other teams have!

I am not having a dig at his comments, just that it comes across as away points not being as important and that they are just focusing on home games.

All teams in this position will be looking at home games being where the points are bagged, and anything away from home being a bonus.

I haven't read nor heard Thorn's interview, but I'm guessing that's what he was trying to say; even if perhaps it came across a little crudely. But then again, I think there's general consensus right across this board that Thorn's no orator extraordinaire in the mould of Laurence Olivier

I think AT wisely tries to take some pressure off the players shoulders when they play away. Ever since that run of away games where we dropped a lot of points in the final minutes I think the players mind have been screwed - we HAVE to win ... surely we MUST win this one ... of course we lost yet again!
It's a viscious circle and AT tries to break it - we'll win, when we win.
There's been enough pressure and it hasn't worked. Now try something else and who knows what will happen.

Tbf I don't he could say much else. Home games are all winnable and, as said above, mention away wins might add pressure where not needed
