football league rules that we are given priority or find a new ground
we were given exemption at northampton - but could not continue at the ricoh - so wasps had to agree to this

bit of a non story that wasps were forced in to

Surely under the terms of the CCFC rental agreement and required by the FA , CCFC have a priority for their games? So not giving CCFC anything they did not already have.

Agree.

We knew in 2014 we would be playing on Saturdays as part of our rental agreement.

A number of people have indicated that the rental agreement CCFC have at the Ricoh states they have priority over days they play.

If anyone could post the specifics of the agreement it would be appreciated.

I wouldn't necessarily rely on FA or FL rules or we have forgotten most are at the FA/FL discretion and can be amended to suit specific situations. For instance a club should have a minimum 10 year tenure, CCFC haven't had that since April 2012 when the rent first wasn't paid and the terms of the original lease were materially broken.

Most ground shares involve a certain amount of accommodation to fit the fixtures in and so long as the fixtures are played on a certain weekend I doubt either the FL or RFU are going to make a big deal of it.

Yes there is an agreement in place, but again how inflexible is that agreement that CCFC can claim first rights with certainty on a stadium they don't own or even lease - it is a stadium day rental agreement as far as I can see not a tenancy.

The FL have tried to get football back to being a Saturday game, it suits Wasps to play Sundays as it doesn't clash with other rugby in the area and it means the stadium is busier because of two sporting teams being there.

Not much of a story really, circumstances kind of dictate this solution. But had Wasps insisted on playing Saturdays (and as owners of the stadium they could have depending on the agreement made) I am sure many on here would have been up in arms.

I think by now we have learnt not to rely on contracts/rules/regulations/discretion in sport haven't we?

I wouldn't place any reliance on the FA or FL either though............. both have proven time and again to be flawed and weak organisations that hide their responsibility behind "discretion"

Wasps opting to play on Sunday has pretty much zero impact on us and little relevance to whether we stay or not, this is so they don't clash with local rugby clubs.

What a load of spin. Wasps fans were asked 2 seasons ago if they wanted to change to playing Saturdays and voted no, last season Wasps changed it anyway and attendances dropped. That's why they're changing back not anything to do with us.

Makes me laugh how, as it might make Wasps statement look like complete BS, people are eager to dispute that we have to comply with the leagues regulations about primacy.

Coventry and Warwickshire’s big rugby community will be free to watch at the Butts, play for or spectate at the county’s 60-or-so junior clubs and rugby-playing schools, or officiate on a Saturday before enjoying Premiership action the following day.

That's the truth of it, nothing to do with us.

“We all want Coventry City to continue playing at the Ricoh,” he says, “as moving into the area has made us all realise how important football is to the city, so we very much want them to remain there.
“We’re also now getting to realise how much rugby is played in the area and how much focus is on it at all levels. By playing on a Saturday we miss out on those rugby fans who want to come and watch but play themselves or are involved with their own clubs. There is also lots of mini-rugby on a Sunday morning, so we hope families will be able to come to the Ricoh after that.

It's taken them two years to realise that a club that has been here since 1883 might actually mean something to people and that, strangely enough, rugby did exist before they came along.

So might not be even a bit of an olive branch then? Must grate having to mention us however not as much as it grates on our owners and management!

Could be an olive branch but more likely just PR. If the CT were more on the ball when Wasps said they wanted us to say they would have asked if that meant they were now happy to resume talks.

The terms of the 2 year renewal agreement are the same as granted when CCFC returned to the Ricoh ie they have pitch priority

WASPS didn't change the date of the Rugby 7's to a Sunday from the first day of the FL season for no reason!

Why is it an olive branch? Wasps could continue to play most games on a Saturday and it would make no difference, wasps only play about 13 home matches a season so would be easily worked around so when Wasps have a Saturday match we would be scheduled to be away that weekend. Which is exactly how it worked last season when wasps had a Saturday fixture.

The point is that there are some on here who think Wasps have a deliberate agenda to fuck CCFC over at every turn. If that was the case, they could have made it much more difficult, but haven't.

Wasps have also been very clear on their stance with negotiating a new agreement. Stop the court action 'noise' and we'll talk. It's clearly in their interests to have a tenant alongside their own activities, but again, if they wanted to fuck us over, they wouldn't take this position.

This I entirely agree with.

Some on here will have everyone believe that Wasps have set out to totally destroy us and scupper us at every single turn.

If they were that bad, that evil, that despicable, then they indeed would have surely tried to make things a lot more difficult.

Couldn't they have said we can play on Saturday's but not until after their game? Or even before, say at 1 or 2 pm?

Don't think so, Nick.

I am sure they did wish to play some games on a Saturday. Sure I recall that being said.

I am not saying Wasps are helping us out here, just that I don't believe they are quite the incarnation of evil that some would make out.

How would it have zero impact ? If they played on Saturday and if we were home it
would switch to Sunday, a home game is an all day thing for me and definitely
can't do Sunday's.
One day you might wake up and realise who is actually to blame for the festering
mess our football club finds itself in, but in the meantime you keep right on blaming
Wasps and the telegraph.

They tried saturdays and their crowds dropped, they have realised that people go to watch city, CRFC and the local rugby scene on a Saturday, that's why they have chose to play on a sunday its more ££££.

They couldn't stipulate when and when we can't play as we have to have primacy which will have been agreed with the former owners of acl who negotiated the deal that we currently have.

The reason they choose to play Sunday is irrelevant, it suits us and that's
all that matters to me.
The fact them doing something that suits us is then rolled up into a stick
(By some on here) to beat them with is ludicrous.

The thing is, couldn't they arrange to play the odd game on a Friday night or Saturday lunch time at midday?

Surely if their heart was set on destroying us wouldn't they be glad to be churning the pitch to make it as awkward as possible for City to use the pitch?

I think anyone that doesn't wear blinkers understands, they probably don't like
football much and would like to poach our fans if "possible" but at the same
time see us as necessary to their financial model.

A lot of their games is dictated to them by BT, just like in the PL sky dictate when games are played.

Lets say they did want to fuck us over for a minute, they wouldn't openly do it for fear of a public backlash from the locals.

If they did want to fuck us over they would do it and spin in it a way which made it look like they weren't the bad guy

No, my point was just that they are doing something that is best for them and making out it is out of the kindness for CCFC. Nobody is saying this is them being bad or evil, I was just saying if they were being bad and evil and trying to screw us over on Saturdays etc then it would probably be biting off their nose to spite their face wouldn't it?

I think the only issue people have pointed out about this is the way it is spun, not the actual situation of them playing on Sundays.

What point have I missed?

It is better for Wasps to play on Sundays because they can try and get the CCFC fans who may otherwise go to away games on Saturdays, Cov Rugby fans, Local rugby players who play on Saturdays etc. Their attendances were higher when they played on Sundays.

Nobody is saying "Oh wasps are evil and trying to screw CCFC over by playing on Sundays". They are just pointing out they aren't going all out and doing things because of CCFC like the way it is being put across and spun.

The fixtures would have been worked out between the 2 clubs anyway, all it means is that if Wasps were at home then CCFC would have been away and vice versa. All it means now is that if CCFC are away on the Saturday, people can still go to the Wasps match on a Sunday if they have been to the away matches which they didn't before.
