I assumed our goal difference was unassailable. However assuming a Sheffield Wednesday win, could this happen?Quaking in my boots that Middlesbrough might overturn +21 goal difference or Millwall might overturn +33 goal difference.
We’re already up but win on Saturday and we’ll be up in all but name.

Ok real pessimistic view below
Assuming 1-0 win v Sheffield Wednesday then four losses in theory could be a swing of say -7
ie +1 v SW
-2 v Blackburn
-1 v Portsmouth
-3 v Wrexham
-2 v Watford
Middlesbrough gain +16
+4 v Portsmouth
+1 v Ipswich
+7 v Sheffield Wed
+2 v Watford
+2 v Wrexham
Considering the shots Middlesbrough have those win margins are not impossible if ttgey finally get their shooting boots on.
The above is a -23 swing and we would finish third. I was confident until I typed this but not so confident now.

We wouldn't be celebrating beating Wednesday would we, we'd be celebrating promotion gained over the season which will be guaranteed imo, nobody's turning that goal difference round in 4 games, Millwall won't even match Boro's goal difference never mind ours, I'm not a pitch invader anyway but can understand that those that might want to.Exactly- not yet promoted for a start and then the optics of celebrating on the pitch because we have just beaten the worst Championship team ever .

Only a City fan of some years could even consider this, but I mean even the most pessimistic amongst us must surely believe now.I assumed our goal difference was unassailable. However assuming a Sheffield Wednesday win, could this happen?

^^^^Yep and it would be sods law for the EFL to punish us with a points deduction.
So the team scoring lots of goals because we have lots of goalscorers will score only 1 and the side without goalscorers will score 7I assumed our goal difference was unassailable. However assuming a Sheffield Wednesday win, could this happen?

So, Blackburn then?In danger of looking a gift horse in the mouth I find myself hoping Millwall win on Friday so we can't officially confirm promotion this weekend, I want it to be at full-time of our game rather than someone else's a few hours later.
I actually think we might not need another point! No guarantees two teams overtake what we already haveSo the team scoring lots of goals because we have lots of goalscorers will score only 1 and the side without goalscorers will score 7
Forget about Middlesbrough and Millwall. 12 points behind us with 5 games to go. We should beat Sheffield Wednesday to make it 15 points ahead with the GD on top. We're not going to lose our last 4 games. Ipswich are our only serious rivals but are 12 points behind with just 7 games to go. Beat Sheffield Wednesday and we're 15 points ahead of Ipswich with 7 games to go for them. That's 5 wins out of 5 just to have a chance of keeping up with us with 2 games to go.
Ipswich are not going to win every single game remaining. I don't even think they will win their next game. We just need to keep plugging away waiting for Ipswich to drop points.....and they will.
Take a chill pill and enjoy the rest of the season.
I saw the Opta expected points yesterday. Ipswich are tipped to come 2nd on 83 points - we already have 84 (we are predicted to finish on 94)I actually think we might not need another point! No guarantees two teams overtake what we already have
I think Southampton could win their last 6 games and finish on 84 and if they don't they will probably win the play offs. It's been a good season for non parachute clubs and would be a shame if Ipswich & Southampton both go up.I saw the Opta expected points yesterday. Ipswich are tipped to come 2nd on 83 points - we already have 84 (we are predicted to finish on 94)
We are playing at the CBS
If you'd told me at the start of the season we'd be watching 6th v 7th with 5 games to go and the outcome would make zero difference to where we finished, I'd have assumed we'd had some kind of points deduction.Tremendous achievement in this quagmire of a league to be basically up at this point.
I do.Only a City fan of some years could even consider this, but I mean even the most pessimistic amongst us must surely believe now.
BigamistI do.
I want Millwall (and Middlesbrough for that matter) to win all of their remaining games as they are no risk to us whatsoever, and I’d much rather one of them finished 2nd than Ipswich. In danger of looking a gift horse in the mouth I find myself hoping Millwall win on Friday so we can't officially confirm promotion this weekend, I want it to be at full-time of our game rather than someone else's a few hours later.
Apparently after some complaints they’re reducing the postings from suspected nonces. Why have I had a load of posts deleted from this thread?
