personally i would question whether he should even be in the side let alone as captain.

Agree with you - I'd drop him from the starting XI and definitely not make him captain.

Unfortunately not skipper material, I'd drop him to the bench & only bring him on as an impact player for 30 mins at most.

Joe Hart is probably the most suitable candidate for captaincy but I'm just unsure how much of an impact he can have on organising the outfield players from his goal.

Agreed. There are still a lot of question marks on where Rooney fits into the team, also I felt Foster looked far more assured than Hart on the 1 game he played, and for me his place is under threat. The only player in the squad that is pretty much guaranteed a starter is Cahill. So by default it should be him.

Rooney's psychological flaws should prevent him from ever captaining either club or country. Lingering doubts about Joe Hart's ability mean he is not guaranteed to even be in the side. So, Gary Cahill for me.

At the moment after a crappy World Cup is anybody that bothered in who will be skipper of the Three Pussycats oops sorry the Three Lions ?
