Hope we don’t get found out with long balls over our high line. There’s only MVE who is capable of chasing back but he’s usually still upfield.
Anyone watching today will see it’s our weak spot.

MOTM for me was BTA. He worked hard, tracked back and ran relentlessly. Rushworth also a worthy candidate. Tats also had good cameos. The rest just did their jobs

I thought he was really passive, we let Watford dominate us second half with 10 men and didn't really do anything about it. We were also far too open all game, could have easily lost the game. I'm rating performance not the scoreline.

We won the game, but I can't say he got his tactics spot on.
My mate said to me at half time, that we just needed to kill the game in the second half - not bother about scoring more, That I think is what happened. We killed large amounts of the second half just keeping possession. It's a long old season, and there was no point busting a gut. 3 points was all that mattered.

Wright was constantly fouled, showed a burst of pace from which they conceded a red card and tapped one in given offside that I'd like to see again, yet scores 5s and 6s on here. Rushworth made dome good stops but missed one completely, had Bobby cover in behind when a goal looked certain and gave the pen away (again id need to see a replay), but has 9s. For me it's much closer with Rushworth 8 and Haji 7. BTA and Tats both 8s too, any of those for motm.

Shout out to Jamie Allen too. He wasn't outstanding, but scored a decent goal and every season I write him off that we've moved beyond him and every season he makes me look silly.

100% some of our fans are delusional and think lampard was amazing today far from it. Agreed mate could have easily lost that game 3 times over.

Lampard 4.

Not the players fault if he plays Grimes as only defensive midfielder. Grimes can't do everything.

To be honest, i think Wright is now looking to get taken down at any opportunity and goes looking for a red card to be given. He got one against Birmingham and one out of three similar attempts today.

Seemed crazy to me playing such a high line against a team that had so many quick and powerful runners. They opened us up and got in behind us plenty of times but Rushworth kept them out.

Watford looked a bit of a kryptonite team for us and how we set up defensively; physical, power and a lot of pace. So chuffed we dug out a win today but agree with a couple of others we won’t always have clinical finishing/rushworths worldies to dig us out. need to tighten up a bit, especially for similar style teams

Worried we seem to run out of steam near the end of games and start losing the 50/50 balls and struggled to get near enough to the opposition in last 10 minutes against Portsmouth and most of the second half against Watford.
Rushworth brilliant but gave a goal away and nearly gave another when Kitch got him out of jail. Still 8
MVE stupid, unnecessary yellow so he will now miss a game. Should have crossed when he went for the worldie goal. Brilliant throws. 7
JDS good 7
Kitch brilliant but goal came down his channel again. 7
Bobby we missed him in opposition penalty area when he went off. 7
Grimes classy 7
Allan good passing, couple of excellent long balls. Opposition started winning balls and slipping past him the longer the game went on. Good strike 7
Tatsu see Allan 7 assist and goal.
Haji. Good movement robbed of a goal by EMC going too soon. Got the red card which eventually changed the game. 6.8*
Asante early crucial goal again and should of got an assist for Tatsu goal winning the header. Not as awesome as recent games. 7
EMC. Still waiting for him to have one of those unplayable game. Still fading during second halves 6.
KKH good cameo. Ref was really poor when he was fouled on the edge of their area. 7
Woolfie Good 7
Eccles don't think his is match fit yet. 6
Simms did nothing wrong but didn't impose himself like at Portsmouth 6
* I know a lot of people never liked Palmer but I thought last season early on he was playing well, went away to Jamaica and then struggled to reach his previous levels. Haji was on fire before he went away, but has been less effective since.

The sending off was as blatant a foul as you will see, and absolutely the correct decision. He skinned their player.
The Birmingham player fouled him too for an obvious second yellow.
Watford were physical and the ref let them get away with it. They on the other hand were doing the classic rolling around injured that we avoid.

Ipswich did this when they went up, overwhelmed teams early then chilled

Great to have bagged the win. But a bizarre performance by a lot of players.

Rushworth MOTM by a country mile. Silly mistake for the pen but Watford would've scored probably 2-3 more without him in goal. Distribution was also very good.

Both centre backs were all a bit shambolic at times, Kitching the better of the two though. Wolfenden looked a lot more assured than Thomas when he came on. Dasilva struggled with Watford's long ball and pace out on their right flank in the first half, better in the second when the game calmed down after the sending off. MVE had a good game at both ends of the pitch and his long throw caused them problems.

Midfield was largely bypassed. Allen despite the goal didn't have a great game. They were a very physical side though so was always going to be a challenge for him. Grimes was OK but again struggled a bit at times with the physical battle.

Another very untidy performance for EMC and thought he struggled for the most part in the first half against their RCB or wing back not sure who it was.

Sakamoto was probably our biggest threat and genuinely didn't stop pressing all game. BTA the same really. Both are so important to how we play.

Wright was anonymous all game and looked very sluggish on the ball.

Just to highlight the defensive performance again though - we very much reverted back to last season where we were constantly caught in behind due to poor awareness. Really wouldn't want to see much of that again as better forwards would've almost certainly punished us.

I thought watching the game, and still do after some reflection, we just got overrun in central midfield and allowed them too much space. There isn't much we could have done about it in fairness, only two recognised central midfielders fit to start, but Grimes and Allen just had too much to do in that part of the pitch.

Yeah basically what I said in response to the other post. We lost the midfield battle all game really.

But we still came away with a 3-1 win and it's probably the one game this season (even after all the incredible results we've had so far) that genuinely demonstrates how punishing we can be if we're given opportunities at goal.
