There are also people acting like we’ve just come down and should be going back up.

Two very special players drag us to a play off final, and since then people have had their heads in the clouds. The level is brutal and we won’t be walking anything.

Come on. There were people at Stoke thinking all we had to do was turn up, and that we’d win by 3 or 4. As if other teams at the level weren’t going to evolve and that for some reason we were going to breeze it. Again, the naive being sucked in and entirely consumed by empty words and predictions.

there were many Stoke supporters thinking the same thing - and you’ve hit the nail on the head there, words and predictions, amongst other things, fuelled the expectation and to then put in that (and I use this word in the loosest sense) ‘performance’ wasn’t a great start

you can’t say the expectation was based on absolutely nothing, and you can now see the narrative has changed in various recent interviews as DK has changed his hopes to top six ‘three out of EVERY five years’ and MR is talking about tempering fans’ expectations

we should be doing better, we all know that, and given time we will, I won’t be surprised if we are there or thereabouts at the end of the season and will be very disappointed if we’re not given I think this is one of the best teams we’ve had in a long while, but if we miss out by five or six points again then surely the now standard slow start will have played a part

Can’t really disagree. But if two head figures are singing from different sheets, then there’s a problem!

The problem with that is it's the owner's expectation we finish top 6 and since the playoff final he's spent a shed load of money to improve the team.

This is where I’m at. We’re also in top 5 sides in attendance and ST holders. That’s one measure of the size of a club.

we’re currently in the top 7 spenders (everyone was using net spend last season - if using net spend - we’re actually highest spenders) - we’re actually bigger top 5 attendances. They’re not mutually exclusive to success, but it gives you reasonable expectations of top 6.

Need to get out of this “little Coventry” mentality and start demanding higher standards that both owner and manager want.

just frustrating we’re yet again starting slow. Was acceptable last two seasons for the problems we had, but there’s no excuses this season. Yesterday was heartening though, better more expansive performance.

I hated that away end yesterday

Just around me I heard; Booing the owner, Eccles getting slaughtered, Wright is shit and lazy following his miss

I'm genuinely getting sick and tired of our fans, they are making supporting this club an utter misery at times - moan, moan, moan fucking moan

Back in the day, yes we were shit, the club was a circus and there was disdain towards the owners but the people who did bother to show up were united behind the players every step of the way - it's not like that anymore it seems after every misplaced pass or shot off target we want to be putting our players head under a guillotine

Totally agree. Me and my lad go to 90% of away games and it's always the luck of the draw who you will be standing next to or in front of or whatever. It isn't just the constant moaning or drunks falling into the you it's the sheer arrogance of entitlement of some of the - and I make no apologies for this - total cunts that go to away matches.

On the way in to the ground walking through the town centre there were a group of our fans swearing at shoppers including those with kids. Chanting "you fat bastard" to a kid about ten with him Mom.

In the row in front of us there was a lady supporter on her own with her lad who was 7 or 8 or whatever and just after kick off these two blokes just stood in front of her and her lad blocking their view. Wasn't their seats, they'd just decided to stand there. Good on her though, she told them to "fuck off" and they did. No doubt stood in front of someone else and ruined their away experience. Happened to us a few times over the last four or five seasons.

I've been going to away matches for over 40 years and this is the worst it's ever been for drunk supporters and just supporters with total lack of respect for anyone else, whether they're fellow Sky Blues fans or not. Wankers.

The definition of madness is to have expectations in the Championship. You can expect to win a few and be competitive but there is over half a division that could get into the top 6. It’s a quagmire of a league.

I’ve got a bit of a different view when it comes to the expectations. Personally, I think the high expectations are a huge reason why we've progressed so quickly in the Championship. That expectation trickles down to the players and management, and they know mediocre performances aren’t going to cut it here. Look at clubs like Preston, QPR, or Bristol City, teams that have been in the Championship for years without ever really pushing for the play-offs or promotion. They seem content to just stay where they are, and that mindset reflects on the pitch.

We’ve spent big money recently, and that’s a clear sign of ambition. I actually enjoy the expectations, and I can’t imagine supporting a club where the fans are just happy to stay in the league. I think that’s a key reason why players enjoy their time here, there’s a sense of optimism and ambition. They can feel the club pushing forward, and that creates a pull effect, bringing in quality players who want to be part of that journey. It’s a great place for players to develop their careers, and that’s why we keep attracting talent.

I also think the boos are silly, especially when it comes to criticism directed at DK. He’s done so much for the club and shares the same ambition as us fans. He’s backing the club and doing what’s necessary to push us forward. We’re all aiming for the same thing, and I believe he’s as ambitious as anyone in wanting success for Coventry.

That said, I do understand the frustration right now. I don’t think the recruitment has been up to the standards we need to keep progressing. Personally, I’m not a fan of signing League 1 players as part of our strategy. If you look at our best players in recent, Hamer, Gyökeres, Wright, MVE, Sheaf, they’ve all come from Premier League clubs or abroad. It kind of reiterates the point that the players who’ve really made a difference for us were recruited from higher leagues or internationally. We need to aim higher in recruitment to keep pushing forward.

I completely agree with you, having done many away days over the years, it’s got to the point where it’s not an enjoyable experience.

Part of me thinks the coach travel are to blame, dropping fans off at the ground a couple of hours early to start drinking.

That has a lot to do with it, I'm sure. They get to the ground carry on drinking then come onto the terracing as the games kicking off or kicked off and they just stand anywhere, in the gangways, in front of people. It's annoying and dangerous. Stewards don't do anything and I can't blame them as they don't want to get abused or worse.

the majority of our away fans, and I would imagine in general, are young kids who go to away games to get pissed / coked up and let out some aggression - it’s unfortunately a reflection of society as a whole now where kids are not scared of and do not respect authority, or indeed have any respect for anyone or anything…

What can you do about it though? Other than more police presence in the stands, drugs testing on entry, no entry if you’re pissed - all seem a bit OTT, but I agree it does need to be sorted

The coke culture in society in general is getting out of hand. It’s crazy how many people don’t seem to be able to have a good time without the stuff. It’s mental how many people you see openly doing at away games, and even piling into the cubicles together at home games as well. The club do have stewards who go into the loos at the CBS now a watch the cubicles but I’ve never seen them actually confront/catch anyone.

I get where you are coming from but in League One and The Championship we have very much been a League 2 set up playing catch up. The infrastructure had crumbled and fallen down. The readdressing of the balance has only just begun.

The boost in season tickets sales is fairly recent and small beer in the grand scheme of things?

Yes we should be aiming for the top six, but if we don't make it, then the season needs to be measured in the context of that season. Not some wild projection made in August

Well, at least one of them apologied, but if she hadn't had the balls to tell them to go away then they would have stayed there and blocked their view. Worst we had it was at St Andrew's back in April. Loads of kids (about 18/19), just marched down our row and stood in front of us. They refused to move. Made it a really uncomfortable day and ruined the away match experience for my lad and myself.

Me too.It wouldn’t be so bad if you could move somewhere else but there is nowhere to go
Some don’t even watch the game they are more interested in goading the other team’s supporters .Its wrong that these so called fans get tickets when real fans who would get behind the players miss out

I know it happens at a lot of away games but Watford seems to be more of a problem than most. Maybe due to the easy train travel?
Last season was horrible with pissed up idiots everywhere and spewing their guts up. I saw at least 3 different ones being sick last year.
yesterday as i walked in a kid was sobbing his heart out with the group of people he was with. I think his dad didnt get in due to being too pissed which tells me he must have been really bad as there are always plenty of pissed twats following us. Coaches getting to pubs 4 or 5 hours before kickoff dont help either.
Regarding the coke culture, i said before, sniffer dogs at every game, especially at our turnstiles at away games. Stops it in its tracks.
final bit of my rant is that there are people who are just ignorant pricks, young and old, that follow us as well and they don’t need a beer or a line to push in queues or stand in front of others. It Happened yesterday and happens all the time.
We have some shitty fans as do every other club and their behaviour will always spoil it for others.

People seem to have forgotten how to behave since covid lockdown. Football is particularly bad but people are acting like dicks at all sorts of events. There's been trouble on more than one occasion at Edgbaston which I can never remember before and there seems to be issues at every gig I go to.

Sure it's a complete coincidence that stats on coke usage show there being a massive increase.

Saw something that said post Brexit price had gone down or stayed the same and quality had shot up. Not sure how. The number of barely employed people I know with a habit is ridiculous. No idea how they can afford it.
