Has just reinforced the cruelness and luckiness factor involved with it all.
Derby today had a very cruel deflection that gifted Hull a goal, Brighton last night lost a number of players to injury and in the end were playing with 10 men because they had, had to use up all their 3 subs....
And now, Barnsley had a clearly perfect goal disallowed for offside when the bloke was ONSIDE by a country mile.
So much can hinge on one tiny decision and suddenly your dreams can be gone in a puff of smoke.
Automatics next season for us please.

<snip> a shocking decision can determine a clubs entire future for many seasons.<snip> ...
More of a worry is the shit standard of the non league sides battling it out for a place in league one.Playing on an allotment kind of suits the shocking standard of football on display
Yes autos next season please...the thing I hate most about Div 1 is the appalling standard of the officials. It doesn't matter which game it is, or at what stage of the season, a shocking decision can determine a clubs entire future for many seasons. It reminds me that the first game of the season is as important as the last, so we have to hit the ground running again next season...
Rubbish! The shocking decisions affect all teams equally. And we make our own bad luck. Even when the shocking decisions favour us, we don't have a specialist penalty-taker to take advantage of them.
Think the question may have been a tad loaded though, as I think the question was would you rather go up automatically or through the play-offs and the key words there are 'go up!'Completely agree Otis, autos have to be the aim next season. It used to make me smile when we had threads start asking " autos or play off final" and the amount of people that chose Wembley always surprised me. The play offs are a complete lottery, and the best team over the seasom rarely goes up.

Shocking decisions can indeed even themselves up and affect every side, but that's no good if your shocking decision comes in a play-off game which could be all but instant knock out!Rubbish! There should not be play offs. The top three should go up because they deserve to go up.

With 24 teams in the league you have to have play offs or there wouldn't be any thing to play for for at least half the teams every season. There should not be play offs. The top three should go up because they deserve to go up.
I see your point but that would make football so boring. The play offs add excitement to the game and gives teams a chance of progressing that wouldn't necessarily be a top 3 team
Would you still have the view if we finished 6th on last day of season and won the play offs?
I would be happy because this are the rules and we were promoted. But deep down I would still feel the third place team deserved it not us, because they finished third in the league, a competition that is run over many months.
Then purely for money and TV it reverts to a cup competition between two sides. How would you feel if we finished third on goal difference with the team in second. 15 points ahead of the sixth placed team who we had done the double over, only for them to get promoted. My view is the three best teams should get promoted and the league system is the fairest way.
What about the bloody horror of our lot in a penalty shoot out!!! Doesn't bear thinking about. Is it possible to arrange for our opponents to take their penalties blindfolded to even up the contest......Ha ha...From what I have seen this year I reckon our opponents would still win.I don't think I could handle it either. Sometimes when my national team has had matches go to penalties I have to turn it off or I'd have cardiac arrest!
I used to like that old system of one of the relegation teams playing one of the promotion/play off teams.
They still use that system in Germany.
