Empty seats are usually due to youngsters having them but standing in Singers Corner - each year, they swap seats around themselves so they have multiple season ticket cards to show that they belong in Singers Corner - that's why even with Stewarding the club can't sort it out even though they've pushed the stewarding more this season. Back of block 14 there's sometimes 5 youngsters to 2 seats !! 2 stand on the seats the other 3 in front

This would not quite work at half time to get the press down and up in the half time slot.

I do agree that the press area are isn't great and takes up so much space.

The press are there for work, so can walk down another couple of flights of stairs - or into a small purpose-built room for that capacity at balcony level.
there's c60 seats for the press area which could be replace by 11 row of 21 seats - 231 premium priced seats (compared against the same area the other side of the dugouts)
Think the club will be looking at the layout behind the main stand to understand how they can maximise the space with capacity - especially if we go up. There's a lot of wasted space up at the balcony level with the big gap for light - expect internal works during the summer needed for a big change - they will look to a long term solution

Wasn’t media facilities one of the things highlighted that’s we’d need to improve if we went up?

This is what Ipswich did after promotion...

Key upgrades at Portman Road
  • Away fan capacity: Increased from approximately 2,000 to 3,000 to meet Premier League requirements, which involved relocating about 750 Ipswich season ticket holders from the Cobbold Stand.
  • Media facilities: A new TV studio has been built, and the number of camera positions has been increased from about 10 to over 40. Other improvements include a new media suite, media "mixed area," and upgraded press box and gantries.
  • West Stand: New executive boxes and lounges are being added to the West Stand.
  • Floodlights: The floodlights have been upgraded to a brighter, modern LED system to meet top-flight standards.
  • Cobbold Stand: Safe standing areas have been introduced, and some seating has been reconfigured to accommodate the increased away allocation.
  • Other facility improvements: Work has also been done to improve dressing rooms and facilities for officials, as well as creating new bars and areas for club memorabilia.

Will be interesting to see what we do if we manage it. In theory the ground is built for a lot of that stuff but in practice everything has moved on in 20 years.

Yes but that's the media space down below - it's small, restrictive in what you can do so isn't great tbh (worked freelance a couple of seasons back and it hasn't changed at all since bar paint, new carpet and branding according to a colleague) - moving the press up to the balcony would just mean further for them to walk to the facilities, break out room at the balcony level for those who just want to grab a drink/small snack would be fine for HT.

I'm sure there will be plenty of small upgrades, re-jigging of seats and general smartening up. Still want that extra tier on one of the stands Cardiff style though

Some of the seats will be people in the forces like my son's , when he's posted abroad he's seat is empty , he did resell it for the last game of last season when he was allowed , otherwise it remains empty

Home fans in Block 9 will be able to use the vomitory situated next to them in Block 10 to gain access to the concourse.
I’d imagine that’s how it will work

And it will still be safer than a fair few away ends we go to.

That might explain it. Will see when it comes to the Sheffield United game.

With the ease to move the fence it would make sense.
It’s not like the situation we had for the start of the 1977 season when visiting supporters were housed at the Kop end of HR and the segregation fence was a permanent fix.
Not that I recall a need over the following 15 seasons for a sudden uptake in home support to be accommodated!

Best idea I’ve heard is move the press up there and anyone else who takes up room in the stands and convert that to normal seats. You can’t increase capacity up there afaik which sound bloody ridiculous but par for the course it seems with this place and health and safety.

The extra 200 odd premium seats would also need another room as the lounges are at capacity now . And if your paying a premium for hospitably you would like to have some space and not oversized que's for drinks and food and toilets . One thing i have noticed many of staff that don't seem to be efficient or just seem to be in each others way or the fans way .

We have the allocation right. It depends on capacity of the ground but the big prem clubs reciprocate according to what their fans are offered . 3000 seems to be the norm.

My seat was wasted by an overexcited bloke behind me, breaking it, when Jamie Allen scored on Saturday. To be fair, he apologised before I'd even realised he'd done it. He pointed out that the CBS are pretty efficient at replacing them, so I decided to keep my knuckle dusters in my pocket

Clearly he’s done it before then. What a tosser!
