The council hierarchy are pretty silent on Wasps now. They’ve become a bit like the drunk uncle no one wants at the wedding

A lot of the people behind it at an officer level are gone now

Sadly a lot of the elected councillors (who voted on the decisions) are still there - the likes of Maton and O'Boyle spring to mind!

Mr Vaughan and Wasps supporters are underestimating the idea that they can build a fanbase.

Rugby is not like football. It's nowhere near as popular and doesn't have the pull we see in the Premier League.

Free tickets don't work. They wouldn't work for CCFC if we tried them. If you are not a rugby fan, you are not suddenly going to become a regular supporter just because you've been a few times for free and been given a scarf and flag.

If CCFC were promoted to the Premier League, we'd sell out every week due to the nature of the PL. The media coverage, big name footballers and occasions. Rugby just does not have that. You would not get locals turn up to see big names that is an occurrence at football grounds nationwide.

Wasps have a ceiling which is probably around 10,000. Even when CCFC had crowds that low, we always had the possibility of that increasing if we were to see promotion. Even if Wasps became Rugby's equivalent to Barcelona or Manchester United, they wouldn't sell out the Ricoh.

Insects play Leicester Tigers on Sunday. Will be interesting to see the crowd size, You'd expect tigers to take a few and what the images of the crowd are like. See how little yellow there is compared to green and red

Tigers fans think they might out number them

They'll get a fair few for this game, but undoubtedly the majority will be Leicester fans...

Big difference being that there’s the potential for a decent walk up for us, something they won’t get anymore due the local indifference to them

PMSL Is that all they have for a local derby? Predict the gate can’t be more than 7/8k?!

Isn’t the Leicester game the one they always boasted was a guaranteed sell out? Shame they don't give you a number for away supporters.

Didn’t the franchise try and create a local rivalry by using billboards? Looks like it went well.

Look: Wasps and Tigers fans react to latest billboard being erected in Leicester city centre

Wasps' fans funded an advert in Leicester as a direct response to the Tigers' billboard situated near to club's new Ricoh Arena home

Not many behind the goal, less than a third full I'd say, similarly in main side stand. Nothing at all behind the other goal.

I'd guess 12-14k for *the* local derby (so Wasps would claim anyway). Half of those there sound like Leicester fans.

So for their biggest draw in the calendar, they're getting 8-9k Wasps supporters at the very most. Bubble has well and truly burst. So sad.

Deserved it too, but the attendance was dismal for a game against their top of the table 'rivals'.

Just waiting for London Wasps to confirm the attendance of 32,500 but when challenged will claim 22,500 didn’t turn up due to it being a Sunday kick off and covid but still ‘purchased’ a ticket.

How long we going to put up with this franchise in Coventry?

McGeechan calls for Wales to play home Six Nations matches in Coventry with fans

McGeechan doesn't want empty stadia for the world's greatest annual rugby tournament and has cited Newcastle United and Coventry City as alternative venues for Scotland and Wales
www.walesonline.co.uk

McGeechan cited Coventry City's Ricoh Arena (these days also known as the Coventry Building Society Arena) and Newcastle United's iconic St James' Park as two alternative venues for Wales and Scotland to play their home fixtures in this year's tournament.

Surely the Welsh would scrap no supporters rather than lose their national sport to England?

I'd have thought Bristol would be a more preferable location than Cov for them. Only half an hour or so by train from Cardiff

Was going to say the same. Surely you’d look at grounds as close to Wales as possible.

Yeah... Cardiff and Swansea fans can come to watch away EFL games but have to play their home games BCD.

Chester City on the other hand (top couple of tiers of non league) are in trouble with Welsh police as despite part of their ground being in England and playing in English league, have most of their pitch in Wales and have been allowing fans in to watch!!....

Would it be OK if you only allow fans to watch from the areas around the pitch that are in England?

The whole stadium is just about in wales. The car park however is in england. Maybe they could build a temprorary stand in the car park

When I was a nipper we used to go on holiday to Pwllheli in North Wales so I associated Wales with the seaside. When we moved to Helsby just outside Chester, my dad used to pacify me when I was being a little bastard by asking if I fancied a trip to Wales. We’d get in the car (a Cortina mk 3) and drive a dozen miles up the road to a petrol station, fill up with fuel and drive home. Never failed to be gutted and duped.

Not a chance you would drag the rugby boys across England to watch a load of shit when you can watch that shit nearer the Welsh border.
