Update on the training centre planning application for the site in Henly from Henley Sports Centre Alliance.

Currently objections far outweigh support. Interestingly of the 6 comments in favour, saying it will benefit the area 3 are from Coventry, 1 from Kent, 1 from Wiltshire and 1 from Wellesbourne!

Anyone who wishes to comment can do so here:
Stratford-on-Avon District Council: Eplanning

EDIT: Just gone on there and read some of the comments. Its tragic, multiple detailed objections from locals (you have to supply your address) concerting loss of facilities, community use being part of the original planning approval, conflicts of interest etc while the few supporting comments include one that is just allez, allez, allez and comments that the objections are a coordinated campaign from our supporters.

They really don't get it do they?

A breakaway league without insects would be nice and probably better for keeping the craft ale fresh

I just read that comment. Basically anything negative is a certain football clubs fans and basicly the planning team should dismiss them. Sent from sone in burton on trent

The thing is, that's the approach Wasps will be taking.

They seem to think that taking away a community sports centre is going to be covered by giving away free tickets. Then again, they can probably give the councillors over there a few slap up meals in an exec box and it will all go away anyway

Be fair Nick, its not just the promise of 10,000 free tickets. They're also going to let the riff riff in a couple of times a year to watch Wasps train.

If you challenge them about it on twitter you either get ignored, abuse or blocked. IMO its perfectly valid to question why the local newspaper is running daily stories trying to make things about the football club seem negative yet won't cover genuine newsworthy Wasps stories if they are negative.

There won't be because they won't be allowed to, it's as simple as that.

Even when they do (ie their accounts after about a week) they are spun articles that read as if they are from a PR company. The same as when it was said their players got a pay cut and he wrote the "5 positive things Wasps have done" article.

They won't say a bad word about them.

Imagine if Tim Fisher had spent 10k in a brothel.
Imagine if Dave Boddy suddenly became the director of a housing company.

It's OK though, Simon Jordan made an off the cuff remark about football clubs and it was "A warning to CCFC and Rivals".

Ah OK, I must have missed that and it must have been in the last couple of days. Have any other reporters? If it is just the Wasps reporter then that would be interesting.

It still doesn't explain why things have been ignored, he even did a story about Lawrence Dallaglio on the 27th - 'Outstanding' - Newbold RFC's NHS mission gets rugby stars' support

Interesting.

Had a quick look through and the other people who tend to write articles have posted them in the last couple of days.

Maybe Wasps don't want to pay for PR as much now?

The sport is in crises. I suspect there will be central contracts like cricket for the top players to try and reduce the bloated wage bills but it seems even the central body is in financial turmoil and can’t now sell TV rights - so there’s going to be massive cuts in central income to clubs. Breakaway leagues I’m sure are being discussed but rugby deludes itself - other than a few clubs it has limited appeal.

Richardson must be looking on in horror

Wouldn't be at all surprised if CCFC get them more clicks than anything else. There's not that many Wasps fans to start off with let alone ones that can be bothered to read all the crap the Telegraph put out.

This is the root of the issue, somehow they all started to believe they're just a bit of marketing away from rivalling the Premier League.

Amazes me that despite the sport only going professional in 1996 and therefore them being able to observe the mistakes made by others before them they've somehow managed to start from scratch and completely fuck it up.

Interesting on the wasps forum

"Brave man.
Wasps main problem before this awful virus was just the business model was broken - stadium too big, no play's offs, on and off field underperformance, the promises thus made to the city broken and a chasm between the business plan and actuality.
The virus has put the coup de grace. Unlike other clubs Wasps inherited various other underperforming businesses. All now toxic as punters have gone and premises closed - the Hotel, Casino, Exhibition and Conference centre. All with continuing costs, rents, rates, staff, and Wasps exposed as no other club is . Ok Exeter has a hotel but smaller scale.
It's unbelievably sad"

One very good message explaining quite a lot about how wasps are different to other clubs ie worse position.

The reply by someone was this.
The rugby and football clubs will have to bury some of their grudges and try to come to an arrangement that suits both parties

I don't think we need to be looking at a deal with wasps to give them aload of money. They have made their bed and can lie in it.

Said this when they did the original bond issue, the danger was always there that by the time they needed to refinance there would be some actual trading history to look at rather than their fairy tale business plan. Everyone seemed to dismiss it and think they could just easily refinance but as I've said before the financial world could be very different when they come to try that. To be fair I was thinking more of the impact Brexit might have but now they've got this to deal with as well. Who is going to loan a shut down rugby club tens of millions?

If the stadium falls back into the hands of CCC due to defaulting on bond, what is there to stop Wasps buying it again or even renting it from CCC (at a friends rate)? Bondholders get screwed, Wasps continue to play at the Ricoh, CET spin story, everyone just carrys on.

Nothing but you'd think even our council would struggle to be that dump when there's an ongoing state aid issue. Anything that isn't transparent and open to all is going to be so obvious even the Telegraph would have to report on it.

Some good responses on there I especially enjoy the ones that say to sell the stadium to pay the bond holders surely the council would be unhappy with somebody selling their asset?

I hope the greedy bond holders lose all their investment in this

I agree with this completely. They tried to fuck our club over, stole our home and evicted us to Birmingham. We owe them nothing and if there is a possibility of some short term pain to take them out of the equation I'd deal with it
